Because it's opposites:
LEFT side of the brain - controls RIGHT side of your body (thus controls movement towards right side)
RIGHT side of the brain - controls LEFT side of your body (thus controls movement towards left side)
So if you force the RIGHT side of your body to do a LEFT side movement, it will be awkward and needs time for the LEFT side of the brain to "right" the movement so that right movement becomes left..
And these movements are controlled by the frontal hemispheres of the cerebrum of the brain, which is divided into two: LEFT and RIGHT
