    G'day everyone. The Cebu Provincial Capitol has already sent several of its employees to help clean the coasts of Cordova. Those who are available now or during weekdays you may go directly to the Cordova Municipal hall where they are accepting volunteers. Thanks!

    hi mga bro...i was there when we started the oil spill clean up yesterday at cordova... the spill has contaminated the area badly. it was an all-military clean up operation in coordination with the Phil Coast Guard... we never had problems with the manpower but the cleaning equipment cannot cater the spill. basic PPE is needed, N95 mask, rubber gloves, and rubebr boots... we cannot respond to the area and clean up with our bare hands because the bunker oil is hazardous to us. physical contact may cause skin irritation and fumes may cause lung or internal disorder. and this will not effect immediately.5-7 years wil do. i was really thinking yesterday to call-up all available personnel who want to volunteer for the clean up but we cannot compromise ourselves(health) for this endeavor as per Coast Guard safety measures. so if you are interested in participating the clean-up drive please be ready of the PPE. The Coast Guard has the control of the operation. They will not allow anyone to be admitted to join the clean-up without the necessary Personal protective equipment. please be adviced before you proceed to athe area.

    thanks for the infor bro. that's one reason why we haven't set a definite time and area yet because we are waiting for advice from DENR and the Coast Guard. we were told though to just proceed directly to the Corodova Municipal Hall because there's lots of work to be done in addition to the cleanup.

    can you also inform your superiors about the manpower we have available? they may be able to assign us to less dangerous areas that needs cleaning too. thanks bro

    UPDATE (Aug 21, 12noon): Here are the tentative details

    Meeting time: 9am
    Meeting place: Cordova Municipal Hall
    What to bring (personal): Protective equipment such as rubber boots, gloves, face masks, and hats or raincoats (depending on the weather); food/snacks and plenty of water; enough money for transportation and contingency; wear sensible clothes such as pants and long-sleeved shirts; additional clothes;

    Notes: We have been informed that there is enough manpower for the clean-up but they lack protective equipment to handle toxic materials so we might be assigned to less dangerous areas along the coasts or to other tasks such as helping in the disposal (bringing the gathered wastes to designated areas) or non-clean-up related tasks.

    We will be posting more after tonight’s meeting with the organizers. In the meantime, please post your questions below. Thank you.
