Wa to nagpabutabota bai, nakadawat to pila ka digits sa bank. Alamz na eat
    ay shempre.. na.a pud na...

I'm wondering why anyone is worried about this subject. In what way will allowing non-Filipinos to own land here change your life? My wife and I bought a piece of property here last year and the Filipino family that sold me the property made a HUGE profit from the sale. I then had to pay a HUGE amount in fees and taxes to your government. I paid the real estate agents, the surveyor, the architect, the lawyers, and the local workers who are preparing the lot for construction of our house (all were Filipinos). Many Filipinos made honest money from just this one land sale. Many more businesses will profit when I purchase all of the building materials, etc. needed for my house. Construction workers will be gainfully employed by me for months during construction. Why not ask all of these people the topic question and see what they say. Maybe someone can enlighten me as to how this can be seen as "negative" for your country? Hmmm.

I feel for you Mr. Vince Russo. It seems some of my countrymen have an illogical sense of national patrimony. Allow me to extend my warm welcome to you and your family to our modest country. May your family prosper here and eventually help this country become a much better place for everyone.
lol nalang ako ma sulti ani hahaha

To Astroboyreal: I'm trying to learn how to speak Cebuano. Please forgive me for replying to your posting in English. I understand some Cebuano, but it isn't easy to learn a language without instruction materials and books. Can you suggest some? Which Cebuano grammar books did you use? In any case, just to clarify things: The property my wife and I purchased is in a remote province, not a wealthy subdivision. There are no other houses or businesses in the area. I hired local people to help me, not large firms owned by the wealthy. I paid those that helped me at a much higher rate than the country's minimum wage. I'm not wealthy. I worked my entire life and bought the property with my savings. I'm living in Cebu full-time, and I use my real name on Istorya, not a nickname to conceal my real identity. What do you need to know to make you more comfortable with me as a "foreigner"? Are you really unsure if my living in your country is beneficial or negative? Is it really a pressing issue? You should visit San Francisco in California sometime. There are so many people of different nationalities walking around (speaking their native languages)... It's nothing to be afraid of, Astroboyreal. It's called progress.

here's my take on the subject:

let's face it na we need more investors to create more jobs...rigth now our laws needs to be tweaked to make Cebu attractive for foreign investors because we are not the only 3rd world countries in SE Asia that are competing for the global market... If you have tons of money and would like to invest in a country which does not guarantee security to your investment? and knowing that the a neighboring country has a better and attractive offer?

I already have one in mind bai. These chinese investors don't want competition. See these kaintsikan, can buy fake papers so they can convert their real names into a Filipino name and there you go they can own land. Pity for the other nationalities who cannot buy fake papers because of their skin and the country they came from.

To Astroboyreal: Well, it was nice TRYING to share some ideas with you on this topic, but I guess that your mind is made up (as far I can tell, but your use of shortcuts and mispellings made it difficult for me to understand your "bisaya", friend). Perhaps you, too, should try to find a book on proper Cebuano grammar. The point that I was trying to make here is that in my case, I moved here almost five years ago. I want to continue living in Cebu, but in my own home (not a rental unit). How is that a "negative"? I pay Evat on my purchases just like you do. I pay fees to the BIR, Immigration, the LTO and in many other ways contribute to your economy. I consider those items to be under the heading of "beneficial". Maybe you disagree, but that's cool... Maybe you can list some the negative things. But please be factual and specific. I checked and your info regarding Timex and call center contracts was inaccurate and misleading.

Astroboyreal, my band is playing at Crossroads this Saturday. Our band members are Filipino, American and British. Different cultures playing together in one band, playing cool music. That's a good thing, isn't it? You should come check it out...Maybe you are also a musician?
