bro, as what cristaldragon stated to get a good-honest broker, you can start from there for your permits/license and etc. coz kung ikaw2x lang it'll be time consuming in dealing w/ customs, too many red tapes etc.....they'll also inspect your office and they're more stricter lately as compared to previous years.

sa akong in-law man ang import license, but gpa-pangita ko niya ug mga buyers on any kind of goods.. hehe!

OT: I once encountered a wife of a Customs Agent, we had our kid checked by the pediatrician that time for his regular immunization. Funny yet annoying thing was she kept on "complaining" to us about their lifestyle.. kana gud reklamo nga dala panghambog?! like:
    - iyang mga anak kuno, dli daw mu settle ug phone, dapat daw iPhone, then mag iPad pa jud daw
    - dapat daw naay kwarto ang each kid niya then with flat screen led tv
    - dapat daw naka aircon pirmi, dli ganahan ug init...
    - dako daw cla bill sa kuryente, abot daw 15k

Grabe noh?! so i asked, what she did for a living, and she said she was a full time housewife (i can infer she's not doing much since naay tagsa ka yaya iyang kids).. then I asked, "what about your husband, mam?".. then she said, "Customs man siay nagtrabaho"..
Oh man, the look on everyone's face in that clinic... mura gyud naka ingon "ahhh... mao diay!".. lol!
anyway, her "rants" continued for quite a while (we were still waiting for our turn at the clinic), and she revealed how her husband got his job (which actually blew my mind). Initially, traffic enforcer daw then ang iyang uncle is already affiliated with Customs. ni retire daw to iyang uncle leaving his position with the Customs open. Interestingly, dapat daw relative ang mu puli, so mao to iyang husband ang nakakuha sa job. weird diba? i thought bawal nepotism sa government?

haha! mao ra to.. just had to share it

well, basically, you need to register as an importer or get an import license if you are bringing in goods for commercial purposes. it is not a option, it is a requirement. it helps in the sense that if you have an import license, you can bring in goods in commercial quantities without being questioned as a smuggler or illegal importer. kung naa na kay import license, just make sure it has been renewed and is still valid.

it is easier and cheaper in the long run if you have a broker. you just need to give him all the documents from your supplier like commercial invoice, bill of lading, etc. and he will be the one to prepare all the documents required by customs and he will do the processing at the bureau of customs. all the officer will do is check if the declaration is correct, etc. and sometimes kung regular importer na ka, di na gani iinspect. afterwards, i-approve na for payment and then for release.

i tried one time nga ako ang nagprocess para maka-save sa broker's fee. pagkadugaya na-release then gasige ko ug balikbalik kay wa ko kahibaw unsa pay mga laing requirements and unsay uban nga process. nadak-an na nuon ko sa charges because i had to pay for additional storage sa van kay dugay man nako napa-clear. from thereon, i decided to go through a broker na and all i have to do is wait for the release.

if you want, you can also ask the broker to process your import license for you as there really are a lot of requirements and it is such a hassle to process this permit. he also will accompany the customs inspectors to go to your office or business address to check.

You just need to fill up the application form then attach the requirements and pay the fee. Pagkahuman they will go to your office/place of business and inspect.

Daghan kaayong requirements. Among them are barangay clearance, mayor's permit, BIR Tin Card and/or VAT or Non-Vat Certificate, DTI or SEC registration, audited financial statements, Income Tax and VAT payments(if applicable), proof of ownership or contract of lease sa office or building, company profile with office photos, corporate officers' profile ug uban pan. daghan lagi kaayo. then if for example mu-import ka ug printing machine, kinahanglan sa approval sa NBI or kung something like health supplements, mangayo pa sa imong registration sa dept of health

ang mga couriers like dhl, fedex, ups naa man silay ilang in-house broker who will process it for you. ambot if kinahanglan pa ba ug license if you have it shipped by courier. i remember nagpadali ko ug pa-courier ug small items, wa raman ko pangayoi ug import license. if you are planning to have it sent by courier, maayo tingali tawagan sila para ma-explain unsay ilang procedure.

kung sa post office, di naman kinahaglan ug broker but i don't know if they will ask for a license if it is in commercial quantities. ask nalang sad nila unsay requirements if you are planning to have them sent through the post office. naa may customs officer naka-assign sa post office.

kung boxes, crates or van unya ipa-sea freight, definitely mu-agi gyud ka ug customs and pangayoan gyud ka ug import license kung repeatedly naa kay shipment.

customs brokers are independent professionals who have a customs brokers license from the prc there's a board exam for customs brokers) and are duly registered with the bureau of customs. they are not part of the bureau of customs but since this is their profession, they mostly have connections with the bureau.
