Scott Bernard, duda nako sem sem ra ta ug edad...30 and above? hahaha.

Andruid80....Bag-o lng jud ko nag start 2x pa lang ko nka attend ug classes and 3x pa lng ko nkaroll...first tym katong gimention nako above. i did that after watching some youtube intructional videos. and my purpose was only to pass the guard of my friend. i soon found out it wasnt so easy. and i was running out of breath constantly, lahi ra jud ang intensity sa combat sports compared sa other sports like running and basketball. grappling for me is like running uphill. kutas jud ko pirmi. maybe its because im still a newbie. hopefully as time goes on and im able to praktis more, my movements will become more smooth and effortless.

as one teacher said, "It will be difficult as first, but everything is difficult at first."

And don't worry about starting late. This is a very new sport here in cebu so almost everyone is still a newbie.

Started training a few years ago, a very fun martial art/sport.

just be careful, and try to prevent any serious injury to yourself or your partners.

even though its a fun sport, and it is supposed to be ego-free. there are still those that just act like they're so tough and in the process (of sparring) injure other people (on purpose or accidentally).

choose your partners wisely. and always tap early. it is really frustrating and 'pointless' to not tap and get knee injuries/wrist injuries/strained necks/shoulder injuries in the process.

be safe, dont be too excited when you spar.

you spar/roll/train to learn ... you shouldn't spar/roll/train to win...

winning is for tournaments... training is for learning...

Sa mga BJJ practitioners, do you spar with pure jiu jitsu only? Or mo duwa pod mo ug mixed martial arts?

Did i just meet you tonight sa class? I am humbled by your experience and knowledge. you have been doing this for many years and i just started.

thank you for the reminders...i do keep that in mind. being not so young anymore i am fully aware how slower i recover from sports injuries now and how "brittle" my body feels like compared to a few years back.

i understand wat u mean by practicing not to win. the first few times i rolled i wanted to be in control. i wanted to dominate my sparring partner. i always burned out from exhaustion. tonight i rolled with a different goal in mind. that is to conserve energy and stay calm the entire practice session. i felt better, practice felt better. hopefully ill get used to it and improve my technique. with proper technique it should be easy, no need to force things. ill looking forward to future rolling or sparring sessions as a learning opportunity.

this is combat sports and there will always be guys who will not hesitate to hurt or injure. it just comes with people's different personalities. i look out for those people.
