    AUGUSTINE of Hippo
    Also Known As

    Aurelius Augustinus; Doctor of Grace
    Memorial

    28 August

    Profile
His father was a pagan who converted on his death bed; his mother was Saint Monica, a devout Christian. Trained in Christianity, he lost his faith in youth and led a wild life. Lived with a Carthaginian woman from the age of 15 through 30. Fathered a son whom he named Adeotadus, which means the gift of God. Taught rhetoric at Carthage and Milan. After investigating and experimenting with several phi***phies, he became a Manichaean for several years; it taught of a great struggle between good and evil, and featured a lax moral code. A summation of his thinking at the time comes from his Confessions: "God, give me chastity and continence - but not just now."

Augustine finally broke with the Manichaeans and was converted by the prayers of his mother and the help of Saint Ambrose of Milan, who baptized him. On the death of his mother he returned to Africa, sold his property, gave the proceeds to the poor, and founded a monastery. Monk. Priest. Preacher. Bishop of Hippo in 396. Founded religious communities. Fought Manichaeism, Donatism, Pelagianism and other heresies. Oversaw his church and his see during the fall of the Roman Empire to the Vandals. Doctor of the Church. His later thinking can also be summed up in a line from his writings:
Our hearts were made for You, O Lord, and they are restless until they rest in you.

    Prayer to Seek God Continually

O Lord my God, I believe in you, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Insofar as I can, insofar as you have given me the power, I have sought you. I became weary and I loabored.

O Lord my God, my sole hope, help me to believe and never ro cease seeking you. Grant that I may always and ardently seek out your countenance. Give me the strength to seek you, for you help me to find you and you have more and more given me the hope of finding you.

Here I am before you with my firmness and my infirmity. Preserve the first and heal the second.

Here I am before you with my stregnth and my ignorance. Where you have opened the door to me, welcome me at the entrance; where you have closed the door to me, open to my cry; enable me to remember you, to understand you, and to love you. Amen.

OT: It's my ex-crush's birthday on Sept. 18 and my dads' b-day on the 14th.

Anyway the fiestas are also in the Bible where it will change the fiest days of the saints (Daniel 7: 25) so don't believe catholics or noncatholics who claim that the fiest days of the queen of heaven aren't predicted in the Bible.

by the fullness of peace he will destroy many - Daniel 8: 25

The feastdays of the saints of the Catholic Church will change the feastdays of the saints of the Most High? Just because the word "saints" are there, you then fabricate this alleged attempt of the Big Bad Church to crush the saints by changing their feastdays? Praytell, what exactly were the feastdays of the saints of the Most High that the Big Bad Church is attempting to change? To my knowledge, only the Catholic Church has set feastdays for the saints, both of the Old and the New Testaments.

Your scriptural acrobatics never ceased to amaze me.

Oh, well, what we resort to in desperation...

    Pax.

Scriptural acrobatics? No, Scriptural truths in context of what is truly already is established with the New and Everlasting Covenant.

Col. 2: 14 - 16 - because of salvation, the written code was cancelled, let no one enslave you with New Moons and Sabbaths, etc. freedom in Christ.

Heb. 4: 7 - therefore a new day is set TODAY

but because of the feast days the Antichrist has established Today is already forgotten....

Gee, thanks for proof texting the authority of the Church of the New and Evelasting Covenant, the Perfection of Judaism: the Catholic Church over and above the Church of the Old Covenant, the Old Judaism with Col. 2:14-16.

Yup, it's still scriptural acrobatics. And what's worse, you keep fumbling your stunts.

Didn't know you were a practical SDA? Interesting.

SDA? I'm no SDA although some of those verses can be twisted into hedonistic "easy believism" which in 1 Jn 5: 3 - 5, if you can't overcome sin (1 Jn 3: 9) you are still an unbeliever even if you profess Jn 3: 16 or Acts 10: 43

I'm NOT an SDA! Goodness! I'm NOT a Protestant, or Born Again, Baptist... the only name for the church in the Bible is Christian (somewhere in Acts, could you provide the verse for me?)

my friend I condemn those "Christians" who practice the hedonistic ways just so they can pursue sin (compare against 1 Jn 3: 9 ) as much as I condemn the idolatrous ways of the RCC and claiming to be the "one true mystical body" that the Bible only has negative to say about (Dan 7: 23, 1 Tim 4: 1 - 4, Heb. 6: 6, Rev. 17, Is. 1: 21, etc)

You say I claim my own witness,(Jn 8: 13) well my witness are the prophets and the apostles... you judge by human standards (Jn 8: 15 ) I pass judgment on no one but if I judge it should be in accordance to the Word of Truth (Jn 8:16, 17: 17 )
