I wonder what IE7 has to offer that isn't on any other browser right now... RSS? Think Safari/FF/Opera 8.. Even the next update to Opera (Opera 8.02, IIRC) now has a buit-in BT client... Tabbed browsing? Already mentioned those 3... Password manager/extensions/<insert_name_of_great_feature_here>/etc.? I can't think of anything now..

This will most likely contain just more security updates. Too bad they're only limiting it to XP SP2 machines and the upcoming Vista... the 2K/ME/98 users are screwed IMO... though I'm ranting about IE7, I'll most likely install it anyway....

Whoever said IE was supposed to compete with any other browser? Adding features is trivial and is not the point. The IE team themselves in the IEBlog say that it isn't their goal. IE isn't Firefox that works as a standalone application. Changes to it cannot be taken as lightly. Firefox already showed us how important compatability is with 1.0.5 when they screwed up extensions and had to release 1.0.6. IE is an integral part of Microsoft software not only for end users, but for corporate clients and developers, not to mention that whatever anyone says, this is better than previous versions. The biggest changes are behind the scenes and security and most of that won't be implemented until Beta 2.

I never said that IE was supposed to compete... in fact, why does it have to compete? They own like 85%-90% of the browser market! I just don't see that figure going down anytime, since MS still dominates us all.... hah, but just like I said, I'll still install it.

You don't have to go out and say "IE has to compete with Firefox" to imply it. This says it all ...

I wonder what IE7 has to offer that isn't on any other browser right now... RSS?
I'm not going to speculate on what you really tried to say, but if you don't believe IE has to compete with any browser, why would you compare their features? After all ... as you say, they don't need to compete.
