 Re: ASIAN GAMES DOHA 2006
well, just a note. Asian Games level competition is one of the hardiest considering that Asia has the most number of countries among the different continents. Yes we were one of the contenders before ( actually were one of the founding members of the ASIAD) but that is because only few countries participated then. In my opinion the dismal showing of our athletes are brought about by complex situations. but one thing for sure, our Asian neighbors are improving at a rate higher than what were doin coz of high caliber exposures they have. Sports is also deeply ingrained in their educational system ( most students are only granted time to do sports when intrams is approaching). The point is our athletes need all the support that it can gained. There is nothing wrong if well be sending " amateur" athletes coz it doesnt mean they are dismal performers. Amateur means they are competing not for prize money. Olympics, including Asiad is Amateurism. Cuba has great boxers but they prefer to stay in " amateur" status for patriotic reasons.
anyway, i still believe that well get medals in individual sports, particularly combat sports of taekwondo, karatedo and wushu. But remember the power house in this sports are not only Japan ( karate) or Korea ( taekwondo) but also Iran, Chinese Teipi and even Vietnam.
