I'm currently using Suse Linux 10 as a database server and so far it has been working fine, but I'm planning to try Solaris 10 because I'm a Java programmer and both Solaris and Java are from Sun, so Java is expected to run more efficiently under Solaris. I am replacing Windows workstations with Linux too, Good thing Java is multi platform so transition to other OS will be simpler.

Just I said on the previous post Linux has more support than Solaris.

Correct me if I'm wrong, Solaris is much more good on the Sun's Sparc hardware even though there's a Intel installer. I heard that's why Solaris was free to download because it lack behind Linux in terms of hardware driver.

If you like the Unix for free, try FreeBSD.
