i see it as millions of years of male conditioning (being the caveman and hunter and all). i just hope that the male competitive energies be channeled through MORE HUMANE activities/pursuits.
mixed martial arts is far more brutal than boxing. you can do what ever you like except hitting in the eyes and the balls. it has no gloves but only a thin padding for the fists. you must have not seen a mma tournament, try watching in rpn 9 during sundays at 10pm and you can see what a mma is.
boxers who get injuries are those who are too proud that they dont want to quit boxing even their bodies cant take more damage. but boxing commisions now a days are very careful in those areas that if you get successive knock outs, they might revoke the boxer's license. they are also more strict in fitness tests.

mma luks brutal..but is not as brutal as boxing..mas taas ang chance nga mamatay ka sa boxing kai sa mma..pag ngalan ug namatay sa mixed martial art b..hehe..in boxing u get hit in the head for a brutal 12 rounds kung championship fight and die after it..like levander jhonson on the fist of el matador chavez defending his IBF lightwieght belt..

but still boxing is my most prefered sport..i love it..the game that u can't play but fight..hehe

about being strict the US is strict..like Edwin Valero can fight out of US since he failed in NYSAC test for injuries in the head.he might even fight pakyaw in maccau next year..he is based in JAPAN

pakyaw deserves his stardom..but does not deserved 2 be used by trapos!

    my 2 cents,

re mixed martial arts: must have seen glimpses of the stuff when i surf channels but since i dont really watch sports, i didnt get to notice how brutal that is. oh well then this sport goes on top of my "Should-Be-Banned-Sports" list.

re boxing: it was my GREATgrandfather bro (long time ago na)...i heard he even played the sport at a time when boxers were not required to wear gloves...deadly it was. the sport is evolving in a way yes...that's an admission that it really CAN be brutal without the strict regulations and all.

if we can make boxing into a sport that uses skill, physical prowess, and competitive spirit MINUS the brutality (head hitting), then we can say we have truly managed the sport...that we have made it more humane. pero murag dili kay "as long as men are around there would be wars" man kaha ang prevailing mentality. therefore, it just makes sense to hope for the ban of boxing just as we hope and pray for peace in the world, correct? if it would take a U.N. to decide on the fate of boxing then that should be the case. I wish.

imo, pacman deserves the honors given to him. he's a national treasure thats why im in favor of putting a statue of the pacman because it will be a good source of inspiration for the people. the only problem is the timing, coz the politicians are using it for their advantage.
.. no. i beg to differ. Pacman became so popular thanks to the media. And boxing is such an easy sport to watch. Just punch the heck out of your opponent, unlike Broadway nor the music of BillyJoeCrawford which most filipinos don't understand. Oh well, all i'm saying is most filipinos are simple-minded beings.

And talking about sports, Bata should be the one to be immortalized.
sure, its a political move. if im not mistaken, lito atienza is on his last term. i think e partner niya c pacman to whoever iyang manok. oh well. god help us all. this country is going to the dogs.

ang pinoy man gud cgro, in want and in need kau of something nA mka pasikat sa atong country.... we dont have anything much na mka proud nato.. puro corruption...puro poverty...and like it or not, almost everyone else looks down upon us. we are some kind of 3rd world rejects

then here comes manny pacquiao who literally pummels his way thru obscurity to emerge on top of the boxing world (cgro, on top of his division for the moment before some other pugilist beats the title away from him).

hurrraaahhh... some poor (and now rich) and obscure (now super famous i get tired of looking at every other advert to find manny hawking vitamins, singalongs, milk, mcdo, sanitary pads and whatnot) pinoy defeats this mexican guy... in the collective thot sa mga pinoy, they (coz im not really pinoy) think they had shown the world that the pinoy is strong and hardy... we are tough and we are the best (in boxing). GRUNT

it is a very primal and macho thing... its not some sissy sport such as bowling, badminton or fencing. it doesnt need brains like chess. it is a game that probably everyone from class a peeps to those below poverty line can understand... enter the ring, at the ding ding of the bell, start punching the lights out of the other person. the last one to remain standing is the winner..

as fingolfin placed it, it is simple enuf for the majority of simple-minded filipinos to enjoy

ALLROCK, I know you are bisaya and your mental capacity is cripplingly limited, but I have to explain to you, Pacquiao did not join a sanctioned World Boxing Championship. He does not technically bring the flag of the Philippines whenever he does his flying-monkey-punch bit.

There is no Philippine Boxing Team. He is not a national athlete. Therefore he cannot represent the Philippines. You are disillusioned to believe that he does this for the country. I should know because I am a national athlete myself (of a sport far more sophisticated and brain-active than boxing).

WARNING: I WILL LOSE IT ALL AND FLAME.

People already know me. There is no need to desire for fame. Hindi kami galit kay Pacquiao. Galit kami sa mga bobong bisayang fans na katulad mong tanga.

AT HINDI RACIST ANG TAWAG DON. REGIONIST. TANGA.

At ano nga ba yung motibo niya? Diba wala naman?

And what’s her motive of causing this legion of “Manny-haters?” Yeah sure, he brought fame to us, but did it help the current situation here? I’m actually happy (okay, I’m neutral) about him winning. You hate people, don’t you?

Eh. And please, don’t use chatspeak or watever u cal dis.

…okay, okay…I’ll be just leaving you alone. I just needed to let this out.

few people are inclined to that art but still, u can be a superstar in the broadway if youre one of the best but leah is not best so as billyjoe. pacman is one of the best if not the best boxer in the world today thats why he's a superstar

boxing isn't just punching your oponent till he drops..theres also savy in it.. there are moves..it needs a lot to be gud at..i know badminton i used 2 play it and i found out that boxing is more difficult to learn..u don't just hit the guy you also think...in its in every sport..it is even called sweet science..its not just brute force there is science in it...

most people don't understand it..they just see the bruatlity in it and they njoi it or hate it..they don't see the science in it..like if u watch a fight when the fight becomes a chess match..people boos..coz they don't understand the science behind it..and that is ..As i See it.

and also boxing has no nation its not pinoy vs. chicano.. its a pugilist vs. pugilist thing..

still pakyaw is a gud fighter..he deserves his place in sports history...

    just my 1 cent!

.. you didn't get my point, i'm not talking about Manny, sure, he is one of the best boxers out there but what i'm referring to is the filipino masses. But before that, don't say that Manny is better than Leah nor BillyJoe; each of these three are champions of their own craft. Do you actually know what Leah has achieved Please answer me that........ before i go on to my main point, coz it's very related.
