Hahaha! I was thinking of making a thread like this.

I've never had education before college in philippines. So im not sure if they ever taught geography. But at the country i had most of my studies, they taught us geography in secondary school.

But, if you ask me, i highly doubt they teach Geography here in philippines. Which is definitely an important
subject. Perhaps its why people are twisted by the stereotype calling Caucasians Americans. Which is really lame.

Bro, my grade 6 (primary 6 in some countries) niece had book on Geography in Filipino version. Last week, my nephew who's now on grade 2, had an assignment wherein they need to write some countries, its people and their nationalities. I had a good laugh when he asked me if the nationality of the people in New Zealand is "Kiwian" since it's people were called "Kiwis" ....

With the above-mentioned school activities, i guess...Geography was taught in Philippine schools...

that is a superficial observation sir. the general public's use of the term Amerikano do not mean the nationality, but rather, anyone belonging to the caucasian race is referred to as Amerikano, and that includes Canadians, Europeans.

it has nothing to do with geography.

but i think this is a natural phenomena. most caucasians do not differentiate thailanders from filipinos and malaysians and indonesian..etc. a few rascals refer to us asians as monkeys even.

if u ask me, i can recognize a syrian from an egyptian, or an iranian from a kuwaiti...an afghani from a pakistani...a greek from an italian...but that is because of my training, rather than acquired.

    btw, i am bisaya.

nah... that's just plain laziness and stereotyping on our part... i guess on everybody's part... asians usually get called as asians by the western peepz coz they have a hard time differentiating one race from the other... that goes for us here too... but "americans=westerners" in this part of the world....

it's not a lack of geography lessons... that is a bit mean... that seems like asking us if we ever got taught arithmetic in our schools... it's basically a lack of proper exposure to differentiate one race from the other..,

give us another 10-20 years... with the influx of tourists from all over the world in our country... we might just have enough experience to properly distinguish what specific race a person comes from just by mere physical appearance...

Ever wonder why Americans refer to Asians as either Chinese/Japanese? I guess these Americans weren't taught Geography in school as well.
