This is quite an old thread but if there are still curiosities out here....as mentioned, cost of living is expensive comparable to Australia...if one is a home buddy, ok ra. Meaning..if your routine is work, house and supermarket. Not advisable kung cge ka'g laag, suroy-suroy, etc....medyo daghan cases sa tulis, akyat bahay ug malaria.

We mostly stayed in rows of very nice house apartments on top of the hills overlooking the ocean...with amenities located in one of the secluded, "secured" and high end residential areas...but at least, one of our colleague's units were ransacked then...

Normally, hatud/kuha mi w/ securities although, some of us self-drived a rented car, including myself. Still, ako mga kauban with their rented cars, natulis when they ventured by themselves...just imagine, daghan sila, at least 2 big cars..ang nanulis mga 15 pud kabuok hehehe..hurot kwatra, cellphones, backpacks ug sapatos hehehe gi-tigbas pa usa namu kauban, may gani kay gibali ang blade pero pwriting lakra sa likod whiel they other was asked to kneel with a gun on his head

I can say, kung ok ang job offer ug numerations ug walay lain, ok ra but just keep your guards...my other tip: if you self drive and along the way, kung naa unusual magbabag obstacles along the road, balik jud sa agi..kay sigurado tulis na....well, gawas kung pulis and mag checkpoint which is normal along the freeways...mailhan nimo kung police kay naa may suga and mobile police cars..

    Good luck!

my mom is currently working in PNG & my dad also worked there before. my mom has been working there since the 80's. i've been to PNG when i was a kid and i do agree that crime rates in PNG is really high.

in fact my dad experienced being pointed w/ a gun in his head while my mom was hiding under the bed. they were counting the income for that day. when all of a sudden the rascals forced there way in the apartment. later my dad found out that one of the culprit was one of his "nognog" workers, he recognized the tattoo in arm. the nognog was then arrested but his other companions fled. mi save toktok pidgin liklik tasol.
