McDonald’s pulls out ‘BF-GF’ TV ad

Fastfood chain McDonald’s has reportedly pulled their “BF-GF” television advertisement off the air. This is in view of the Catholic Church’s statement that said advertisement teaches wrong values to children.

The TV commercial depicts two children, who, despite their early age, already has a concept of intimate romantic relationships. The young boy views relationships to be demanding while the young girl sees it in the same light as a McDonald’s french fries.

In an earlier statement, Catholic Bishops Conference in the Philippines (CBCP) Episcopal Commission on Family and Life (CBCP-ECFL) executive secretary Father Melvin Castro related that the McDonald’s “BF-GF” commercial should be pulled off the air for teaching children the wrong values on human relationship.

In response, Margot Torres, vice president for Marketing of McDonald’s Philippines ordered the pull-out of said advertisement. McDonald’s maintained that it is likewise their goal to promote family values through their advertisements.

In the meantime, old McDonald’s TV commercials are seen on TV.
