Not really. About 99% of the craters you see on Mercury are over hundreds millions years old. The impactors are the remnants/fragments of the other planets which didn't survive the early solar system configuration (estimated that at one time, the solar system had over 150 planets).

IMO, Jupiter is the Paper target, coz it protect us, inner planets, like Mars, Mercury, Venus and Earth from deadly asteroid outside Jupiter..
From earth, it looks like a bright star.
