judging from your replies, this one topic is all about two things: reckless drivers and increased fare. can we come up with a solution that would solve both of these? what about riding bicycles to work or to school?

    riding bicycles for everyday routine:

would leave drivers with little money.
would risk the person riding the bicycle to be involved in an accident, what with reckless drivers all around.
there's not even enough money to buy a bicycle in the first place.

    advantages:

    environment friendly.
money supposed to be spent for fare will be saved instead.
still, there's not enough money to buy a bicycle in the first place.

gawd, there seems to be no solution.

Hehehe ..... when you get to ur destination , you will be spending a lot of money for drinks because you are thirsty like a camel . The money spent on refreshments could had you afforded a taxi cab instead of PUJ .....hehehe juk juk juk !!

    ^right, FK.

but really, even if it's a good idea i don't think people are that open to the idea of riding a bicycle as a means for transportation. very few people rely on bicycles in the Philippines. except for those whose businesses depend on it. like balot vendors and some such businesses.

can u believe these things to be happening in our lifetime? i mean it's saddening but it's also quite amusing. i have about a couple of stories i can tell to my grandchildren already. u know.. the usual line our grandparent's say, "sa among panahon.... blah."

just because they have expressed their sympathy doesn't mean they can stop the change. i used to hear rumors spreading around that taxi drivers didn't want their flagdowns to increase for fear that they won't get any passengers anymore. were they able to stop it from happening? no.

you can't stop fare increase for as long as the oil price market increases. as to oil increase, everything has to go up including wages and price of goods and commodities. if one thing doesn't go up, something gets affected adversely, one way or another.

    OT:

good suggestion but hardly feasible. it might do if you didn't have to keep pushing for long distances. imaging yourself riding your bike to school, work, or to the malls getting so drenched in sweat or rain.

i ride a motorbike when i'm in a rush and during days when the weather's perfect but i still prefer the car for everyday driving. being protected inside the car saves you from the weather. it is not just more comfortable but a lot more safer.

yup... but ang sweldo kasagaran maoy last mo increase... kana kong mo increase.

    O.T.
ang bike dili kaau advisable kong layo imong biyahi-on og taga opisina ka... but kong duol ra, mas maau bike na lang naka save ka plete, kong mag commute ka... save pud ka gasolina kong naa ka auto. Biking is indeed less comfortable... pero maka exercise man ka.

bike to work...hmmm...very nice idea. i'd get the exercise i badly need, i won't have to spend too much on maintainance, won't have to budget for gas, etc. yeah, i'd gladly exchange my car for a bike. BUT on some conditions:

    * a bike path for my safety. i don't want to be meet my demise on the road
    * pollution-free Philippines. no smog please
    * waiting sheds in every corner. in case of a rainy day
    * no helmets. talking about the dreaded Helmet Hair Syndrome

everything affects everything. you can't get more if you don't pay more. if employers don't get a raise with money coming in, they can't have a raise with money going out. that is why we have to compromise and put in a bit of sacrifice.

if commuters don't pay the right amount of fare, the operators suffer.

    OT:

it's funny how the first three of your set conditions were of concern to health and safety. i don't know what went wrong with the fourth...
