Its not so familiar... I'll check it out.

just try watching it until the 5th (?) episode, this is where it gets better. Buso Renkin feels just like your basic shounen anime (Bleach, Naruto, etc.), only shorter.

Another character worth mentioning is Viral of Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann.

It seems like the whole 'bad to good' image of an antagonist is appealing for me (same with Chouno)... and let's not forget about his awesome voice which was done by Hiyama, Nobuyuki.
