I dont know about you guys, but isnt it supposed to be the job of a congressman to file an impeachment complaint? There are reasons why there is a law separating the Church from the State. I just dont understand why some Bishops still insist on doing political moves when even the Pope himself in the Vatican supports GMA...

another clear example of our crab mentality... just when we are climbing, someone pulls us down...

    your thoughts please...
FK has given you the answer. any Filipino citizen (church official or not) can file an impeachment complaint, a congressman will only have to endorse it.

the separation of the church and state clause in the constitution is not absolute just like the freedom of speech, right to assembly, etc.. its separation can be compared to a car's front wheels, separated but have to go the same direction. it is the church's duty to teach morals (although some of its leaders are questionable when it comes to this).

if a certain church invoke killing as one of its sacred religious practice, cant the government interfere to implement the laws of the state?

uh, if the Government tells you to worship Satan and receive the mark(666), would you do it?

See? I dont think we can use that line of logic because we are assuming that this Government was founded by the same God that our churches are worshipping today... (not sure about the others though...Â* )

as stated by Wanderlust, the church fathers should stick to ministering to their constituents spiritual needs... that is their main calling in life... the CBCP has made its stand on this already and i still dont understand why some bishops are grandstanding with the other opposition members of congress...

But that was a nice and valid point that you raised there.

@ estor_boot - Sure, they can.Â* Â*That's a good point you raised there, bro.Â* The church should just stay out of politics to lessen the problems we have in this country. Instead, they should just tend to their 'flocks ' and lead by example.Â* Â*Why don't they hold prayer rallies INSIDE the churches instead.Â* We need them to help pray for our nation.Â* And they're supposedly the experts in that field- aren't they?Â* So why don't they just do their jobs and leave politics to the politicians.Â*
Yes, they also need to clean their own backyard and if they insisit on meddling in politics, these priests should run in the next election.Â* I also agree that the church ought to be taxed just like the rest of us.Â* If my sources are correct - there are churches here in Cebu getting as much as a million pesos A week even if most of these are just loose change.Â*

So Filipino mana sila dapat e tax pud na sila. Kanindot hapakon nang mga priest nga tax free nya pakialamero/pakialamera. Dili dapat sila exempted sa tax!

So see... if the government was founded by the same God that of our Church. so by virtue of the authority given by God to the priest. They can meddle with the government?

as stated by Wanderlust, the church fathers should stick to ministering to their constituents spiritual needs... that is their main calling in life... the CBCP has made its stand on this already and i still dont understand why some bishops are grandstanding with the other opposition members of congress...
Don't you think also that this government officials of our don't need advices on what is right and what is moral? Look at what they are doing are this morally right.

Just think of this... if Cardinal Sin stop after they have made their stand, do you think Marcos will be out? If a person is making a stand in favor of the opposition it's grandstanding and what about a person making a stand in favor of the administration?

Yes, they also need to clean their own backyard and if they insisit on meddling in politics, these priests should run in the next election.
the last statement is a clear sign of meddling with the affairs of the state... but expressing ones view on an issue is never meddling with the affairs of the state. Another instance where I can say that it is a clear meddling with the affairs of the state is when a priest lobby for who will be appointed in what position.

If my sources are correct - there are churches here in Cebu getting as much as a million pesos A week even if most of these are just loose change.
Give to Caesar what is Caesar's, and to God what is God's. I give taxes and donations to the government because i'm a Filipino citizen... and I also give money to the church because i'm a Catholic. If they collect money from the church which also comes from my pocket... mura na siya og double taxation.
