HP and Dell are good brands.
Cebu-sold (or Philippines in general) bnew laptops are overpriced so don't expect much. If you want, the best spec unit you can buy for the same price here is via a returning friend/relative from the U.S. but even that suffers from the lack of proper support tech support since the support is from that country ra. Which brings us back to Cebu where if you happen to receive a defective unit, you will be still receiving a defective unit nga gi-fix lang.
Nahulog ra gi palit nimo for a normal unit's price ang defective (but fixed if you're lucky) unit pero awahi lang ka nakahibaw... Swerte2x lang jud mu palit ka laptop here.
IMO, if you choose a brand known to have expensive models pero imong budget gamay ra, that's like you're spending a little on the specs and more of the brand reputation (in other words, better support, which actually from my first paragraphs, are absent here) than if you go for not-so-known-for-expensive-model brands like MSI where you're actually spending more of the specs and less of the brand. Of the two "categories", just expect a virtually absent support if you're unlucky pero if you're lucky enough, you'll either be enjoying a defect-free Core2Duo-class not-so-known brand or a defect-free DualCore-class known brand.
So which lucky, budget-conscious laptop buyer would you rather be?
thanks to everyone who replied
thanks to the brands u posted at least i know other than dell, acer, asus, msi and apple are okay na contenders...
i won't be getting any hp/compaq coz akong pc was an hp.. it ran beautifully for 2 yrs then the capacitor bloated... hasul kau paayo, layo kau ila service center then gi ilad2x ko sa technician..
dili lang pud ko apple cz ambot, although their stuff looks nindot and innovative, dili lang jd ko..and mahal pud... i have iphone and itouch na walay gamit
now its a choice between the lesser evil nlng.. ambot asa jd kaha ana nila the most reliable with the better customer support...
i think i will wait after thanksgiving or christmas para sale npud sa US and windows 7 will be out na!

go for SONY bro ...
im looking for a good brand too. I am eyeing on this Lenovo G450 but i aint sure if it is a budget and spec-wise choice.
paapil sa imo thread hehe
The most reliable brands in terms of durability are Toshiba and Dell. But that doesn't mean that they are exempt from lemons. It's best if the after sales records of the brand is also reliable.
Dell has a service center in Lahug, near Holiday Spa. My Dell Inspiron 4100 PIII is still going strong.
My current laptop is an IBM X60's, purchased in 2007 just before they changed the badges to Lenovo. And I have had no problems with it so far so I cannot say anything knowlegable about the Lenovo after sales service.
If I were to buy myself a laptop right now, one that I would constantly use outdoors, I would go for a Dell based on my experience with the brand and after sales service.
nice pick. I have a friend who had a Dell bought it for like 30k. It might be good but I want to be different. hehe
