to get a more accurate estimate, I think its better to factor in both idle and full load since the pc doesnt operate at 100% load at all times even when gaming. What more if the pc is just doing casual browsing or just downloading files or doing non 3d intensive work.

Its a matter of being conservative or accurate... up to the user to decide how he/she will want to measure.

    If c2d 8400 vs core i7 920:

idle: core i7 consumes 13 more watts
full load: core i7 consumes 55 more watts

What about the videocard, what card were u using with the core 2?

    Any other component you changed?

don't forget one big contributor to power draw: an inefficient power suppy!! it starts there...most people simply look at the wattages & the 80Plus factor ratings...they just forget to look at the power supply de-rating curve...most 80Plus factor ratings are taken at 25c...i don't think most of us are on aircon rooms

Me too. It seems that my electric bill increases almost 60% from my previous bill since my RIG arrived. Seldom used mostly 2 x 2hrs for weekdays kay busy sa work permi and then sa weekend pinakataas ra ang 6hrs. Very seldom ra jud but dako ayo increase japon sa kuryenti. I have GTX295 and i7 setup, 10xpcs of 2000rpm fans, and ram cooler with 3000rpm, and a 700watts 7.1 surround speaker.

i used to leave my computer running to download torrents, now i just go buy the cds.

the simpliest is to get the 75% of your wattage sa PSU (that is if d ka overrated or underrated sa PSU, and u computed it before u bought the item). just to give u an idea lng as to pila. this is not necessarily true kay magdepende man unsa ka loaded imong comp within sa duration sa time.

daghan ra ba sad ta losses from PSU alone. when u hit the 80% rating, d na kaayo efficient and system, and which u have to account and pay for. some "generic" PSU are even only up to 60% efficient only, and knowing the fact nga they are also not as what they are advertised for, ang 500w diay 400w ra.

daghan kaayong lipat-lipat sa psu...for example: Dual rail 12v...+12V1=18A, +12V2=16A...ang max combined output sa ubos=384W...if you do the math...luge ka...384W/12v=32A ra...but ang naka label 18A+16A=34Amps...tanawa inyong PSU ok ba
