While S. Korea's former leader jumped to his death due to charges of corruption, ours instead jumped to the idea of running again for the presidency...worse, some people like the idea...what the hell are they thinking?!?

i hope it will happen also here those corrupt government officials. i salute you former pres. Roh Moo-hyun, embroiled in a penetrating corruption investigation, leaped to his death — a shocking end for a man whose rags-to-riches rise took him from rural poverty to Seoul's presidential Blue House. a self-taught lawyer who never attended college and didn't have the elite background typical of Seoul politicians, had prided himself on being a "clean" leader immune to South Korea's traditional web of corruption.
Allegations that Roh, president from 2003-08, accepted $6 million in bribes from a businessman while in office weighed heavily on the ex-leader, who appeared emotionally wrought last month as he prepared to face prosecutors.

Saludo ko niya. No one ever remains totally clean in politics. That's the nature of the beast. I guess he felt he was doing the honorable thing.

I know a lot of people are wishing our politicians would follow his lead. Pero di na mahitabo. Roh died of a head injury from jumping off a cliff. Atong mga politicians di mamatay tuhod ana kay gahi ug ulo ug baga ug nawong.

I'm ambivalent about leaders committing suicide for honor's sake. Dunno, but it affects a lot of people. Might send the message of giving in to defeat, hopelessness, shame. Di pod ko ganahan aning mga leaders nga baga kaayu og nawong molansar gihapon maski ilado na sa corruption, pero somehow they're palaban.

Pres. Roh was a self-taught lawyer. He didn't go to college but still passed the bar exam. Wow, I'm impressed.

I'm saddened by the news, unsa nalang kaha ang mga Koreano especially ang mga supporters niya.

OT: lately, i've been studying korean culture and history, and it still baffles me as to how korea (well, at least the southern half) managed to become the economic sucess that it is now come to think of it, these guys have had it a lot worse than us, i don't just mean the korean war, but their whole 3000 or so years history of conflicts invasions, famines, and disasters. to quote my language exchange: 'oh, so you were a spanish colony for 300 years then an american colony, big deal; at least your country benefited from them, as for korea, we had to suffer a lot' and i agree with her...pictures of koreans taken 50 years ago dont look any different--or may be worse--from that of squatters living in our country now...heck, pictures of the philippines from the same time period show a country in the height of its glory so my question is, what have we done wrong? or what did the koreans do that we failed to? sayang noh, it could have been us buying beach houses in jeju-do, shopping in apgujeong, or lounging around in busan, not the other way around~ * * * could it be our lack of nationalism, as one korean blogger pointed out? it's probably true in my case...i just find it hard to love the philippines; an indepedent cebu/visayas would receive every atom of my being though, but that's an entirely different story~ but hey, isn't korea divided too? lol

I wasn't surprised, uso kaayo sa Korea ang magsuicide basta madepress or magsugod na ug kadepress, mga politicians, celebrities to ordinary citizens. Kung naa man gani'y news about sa pagkamatay sa mga politicians ug celebrities, rare kaayo nga about kay nagkasakit or naacidente, daghan gyud kay suicide ang reason. Usually, through hanging kay illegal man ang possession of firearms. Usa pa nang copycat suicides kay naa gyud pud na pirmi basta sikat ang naghikog.

I think S. Korea has the highest suicide rate amongst economically well-developed countries. The numbers are quite disturbing.

Somehow, it makes me appreciate my culture more. Kitang mga Pilipino, maskin wala na'y makaon, katawa gihapon!
