When Camus said that the absurd is born between the meeting of the world and of life,,, mao mana sa,,, does he imply pessimism?

i do not think its pessimism. exactly its a revolt against the absurdity of existence (freedom and limitation; the essential existential question: if i am to die, what is the purpose of my existence? this has been echoed from sartre to fromm to Ricoeur. Fromm himself writes that man's existence is an essential contradiction: "man always dies dies before he is fully born" Sartre writes: "man is a useless passion" )

ang existentialism ni camus pareha ra in some point with sartre. such is why with the latter, he explains why existentialism is NOT a "despair of pessimism" in his short essay existentialism is humanism. (you might want to check this out if you havent, although it is very short and easy reading it is stll very important in the study of existentialism)

like camus, it is not pessimism, exactly why we have to revolt against the absurdity, metaphorically pointed out with the rock which sisyphus continually bears everyday, in that existence is not predetermined we have to put meaning in our existence an absurd existence, a paradox, an inherent contradiction, but exactly why "existence precedes essence" because we are the one who put meaning to it through our actions.



in short it is not pessimism because it is not fatalism, because we are not fated to do what the universe wants us to do, we are because that is what we choose to be through our actions.

Why do we have to put meaning in an absurd existence? to make the absurd existence meaningful?
I think pessimism. Just because we are not fated to do whatever the universe wants us to do, then it is not implying pessimism?


Pero parang Camus nganong life is worth living man ghapon? wa ko kahuman sa myth of sisyphus baya kay galisud kog sabot. nagbasa sa kog mga literary work niya,,,, kay it is an insult to existence man to iya tubag about sa suicide pero kana ngano man?

hehehe patabang lang kog sabot ninyo pasenya kung obvious tingay ang tubag or way unod hehehe

there is no such thing as destiny, that is why its not pessimism because the power of change and the power of molding what you are is dependent upon your choice.

but why not start sa iyang The Stranger tapos The Fall and the Rebel. balik sa iyang Myth of Sisyphus.

this is our path, as my prof. said we do not have to struggle with the wife, with girlfriends, with the job, with mortgage, we have to lovingly struggle with the text - we are philosophers (hehehe) so finish the Myth of Sisyphus, if not read Sartre's Existentialism is Humanism, its a short read but very important to existentialism and is an easy read.

i'm just a new member here, the reason why i join is because of the works of Albert Camus. I'm trying to learn & understand existentialism & absurdity. i already read the stranger twice, i also have The fall & the plague but have not yet read them cause i'm still in the midst of reading crime & punishment.

guys, can i ask a favor, pwedeng in english or filipino ang discussions, i didn't mean to say not to use any dialects but i can't understand any of them, sorry guys, w/ due respect, really am, i know that it's important to understand all what you are saying, i think am missing something.

I think there is a destiny, only one destiny and that is the end, death. We can not control our own destiny, we do not choose death. Who wants death? Death is destiny, the end, we have to accept it, but facing death we still have a choice, we can be contented or morose; shriek or in silence; happy or in despair.

hi jackal , nothing to do with albert camus--i like him too--just wanna if you mean bisaya as a dialect here then let me stress that bisaya is not a dialect but a language. bisaya has its own grammar and usage, words, etc.
