they belong to a different culture... hence, the difference in beliefs...
not to say that I condone the statement...
personally, I feel that beating doesn't correct the wrong action, it only breeds more violence

its their culture and their belief, ive read somewhere that its even in the koran that you can beat your wife. this is why sometimes im prejudiced about muslims.

that's Bedouin culture.. women are inferior to men, and you can't blame them because they have practiced that since time immemorial, panahon pa ni prophet Mohammad

we just have to respect their culture.. mao nang maluoy rako sa uban pinoy muadto saudi nga wala jud idea sa culture, and eventually they violate the rules and practices, so they end up in jail, and worse, they get their heads cut off in the process.. tsk! tsk! tsk!

^there's a time for each culture to evolve. If America didn't evolve, they wouldn't have elected a black president.

let me just highlight this part...

"It is not acceptable, it is even forbidden in Islam to beat a woman on her face. ... No matter what the woman does, the man has no right whatsoever and under any circumstances to beat his wife on the face," said Hammad, who was not at the conference.

"Regrettably, there is a common understanding in the Arab and Islamic world that man is the master who looks down on the woman and has the right to do whatever he wants to her. This is wrong," Hammad said.

She said she was to attend a meeting later Monday with members of UNICEF, the U.N. agency for children, to discuss the issue.
Nice one bro. I am enlightened

I think wife beating isn't just common in one culture. It is common in all cultures specially in the community of egocentric males who have yet to become humans.

Wife beating is a sad part of a husband and wife relationship ... in other culture, still, a wife is seen as a property like sheep, ox or car, etc .., mao nga luoy sila didto... ngari sa pilipinas, duna tay mga laws against violence towards women, wife included' and it should be respected and obeyed ... para nako ang mga lalaki nga mobun-og ug mga asawa dunay deep emotional issues towards their mothers ... kinahanglan sila i process psychologically...
