my opinion:

either your HD has the problem or the installer itself. maybe the IDE cables of your HD.

Need it to be in Windows operating system Bro. XP would be the best choice for these hardware constraints.

My son gave up on a HD because he can't reformat using windows. I plug in my ide cable and reformatted/erased in a mac. Problem solved. Old HDD good as new. It is now used as a backup secondary drive in a win/dos machine.
Try it you might get some luck.
