i have a cousin who bought a smart prepaid wireless broadband kit a few months back. she came to my house complaining about the slow speed. we tried it at my house and it was sooo slow. i have no experience with these gadgets nor with smart bro but i decided to tweak the options/settings.

it turns out that the settings were set wrong. Instead of getting HSDPA/3G signal, she's getting GPRS. A Smart tech set that up and told them it was the "fastest". She checked that thing saying "Prefer GPRS signal or something". So what I did is that I checked "prefer HSDPA/3G". Then voila! It was all fast now. but i did run a speedtest and it's not even up to 384 kbps. i think it was 256 kbps or something.

3g is turtle slow. I think 3g internet is really made for cell phones and shouldnt migrate to PCs.

I'm not sure with Smart but i think it is also the same rate.

So if you could just find a way to connect your cellphone to your PC and use it as a modem, do so. Sayang man sad ang cellphone feature na di nato gamiton. apil ra ba na sa bayad nig palit nato. I've done it on nokia, sony ericsson and motorola phones connected to a laptop.
same here bro. if ever kailangan gyud internet connection, i just hook up my phone with the pc and instant internet access using DUN. better kung HSDPA or 3G imu makita sa connection..

actually bro, wa gyud na nila gi migrate to pc. ISPs just use a device that can connect using 3g and be used as a modem of your PC not the PC itself. in fact, 3G in cellphones and those devices should be able to connect with the same speed (as long as they comply with the standards).

3G is slower than that of the WIFI or DSL but faster gyud compared to GPRS.. And from what i've noticed, when I just only use my cellphone (without the PC) to browse the internet, it would seem much slower than using it as a modem connected to the PC, and use PC to browse internet.

maybe the logic to this is that, the pc has a much higher cpu processing capacity and higher memory.

    just my two cents...

we need to install a software like the Nokia PC Suite (for Nokia, obviously) or any other pc suite for other brands to let your PC/LAPTOP recognize your cellphone as a modem.
also, of course, the USB cable from PC to your phone.

unsa diay imo phone? basin ka tabang ko nimo..

my sister bought smarbro prepaid too... right after using it, ngcge na ug yawyaw ug cge reklamo kay hinay pa sa bao ang speed. she lives in Minglanilla.

i also bought globe's visibility [katong wala pa gipa ubsan ang price]. nangutana gyud ko sa Customer Service sa Globe SM kung asa kutob ang coverage sa HSDPA/3G dinhi sa Cebu. ning ingon cya for North kay Consolacion then for South kay Minglanilla. and so i thought... ok Minglanilla man ko puyo, so covered ra. next question fired... how can you guarantee a HSDPA signal sa Minglanilla? good thing with the Customer Service Rep i talked too kay she gives me an honest to goodness answer... the answer is "NO GUARANTEE AT ALL, if naa kay 3G cellphone, try connecting your phone to the internet and do a speedtest." --- which we did thru N95, pero around the area, hinay gyud ang 3G signal. But despite of it all, nipalit lang gihapon ko kay magamit raman gihapon usually when we're mobile and no free WIFI connection available kung asa mi mu-adto...

mao na akong gamay nga advise sa mga mupalitay ug mobile internet service, ask as much questions as you can think of... technical questions mostly. magkabuang gani ug tubag ang customer rep/sales peeps nila... sign na nga sila mismo walay alamag sa performance of the product they're selling.
