the oldest living person today is Gertrude Baines of America at the age of 114-year-old.

Gertrude Baines was the oldest person in the world. She died Friday and in her sleep at the Western Convalescent Hospital. The hospital was her home. She decided against living alone at age 107 after breaking a hip.
According to Dr. Charles Witt, Baines’ longtime doctor, Baines was likely to have suffered a heart attack. But nevertheless, an autopsy is scheduled to determine Baines’ exact cause of death.
Witt told the Associated Press, “I saw her two days ago, and she was just doing fine,” adding that Baines “smiled frequently.”
Baines was born in Shellman, Ga., on April 6, 1894. She became the world’s oldest person just this year in January.
