didto ko doha, qatar last 2008 until 2009 only. our accommodation was a few steps away from al arabi stadium near muntazah signal. syempre just like any other muslim mid-east cities, doha s a boring place unless ur crazy about disco. u can only go to bars in large expensive hotels cuz alcohol is regulated there. one shot of tequila can make ur bp to shoot up. if ur single and cares nothing about ur family's welfare back home, then u can search for that so called "underworld" as one user said, and squander ur hard-earned riyals and end up eating cobus 3 times a day.

doha, for me, is also a very rich cultural city. u walk around the old doha where souqs are located and u can find lots of heritage sights such as the old palace, the spiral grand mosque, not to mention, the souq waqif and gold souq where gold shops are a common sight and golds r cheap, a good investment if u like.

i.m. pei's museum of islamic art jutting out into the bay on the corniche is quite a sight, not to mention, the treasures on exhibit inside its geometrical exterior. art enthusiasts wud find the mia a great find cuz beside it's free for everyone to visit, the museum houses a magnificent collection of artworks from the 7th to 19th century.

the most frustrating experience i encountered in doha is their malls. u thought u will go to the mall to while the time away on fridays and holidays to surmount the boredom feeling at ur accommodation only to be shooed away. it's like playing cat and mouse in order to gain access to their malls. because they dont allow single males or group of males on those days unless they r with other females or with their families. u can get in using any way u can.

the only consolation i had was that i live near the stadium where i can always go everytime there's local soccer tournament or jog around the oval for free. watching the tournament in the stadium is only free when u go after the tournament started but still no problem cuz their stadia r so big and spectators r so few u can still get the choicest seats.

qatar is partly open; better than saudi but not liberal
    than dubai.

women can drive and work in various offices. they can
also exercise their right of suffrage in national election.

qatar has its own story of uprising but that what decades
    ago.

qataris are mostly polite and educated. but beware!
    quite some are reckless drivers.

the tiny nation shares its riches to its people, the reason
they have high respect with their emir, their government.
