pre, gpangutana naku akong kaila nga taga semicon ug mao ni iyang explanation. naa daw phones nga inana nga once ipa-upgrade nimo maguba bisag wala siyay problema prior to the firmware upgrade. ambot lang kung unsa ni ka tinuod pero mao na ang iyang giingon. pero ayawg kabalaka pre k warranty pa man kaha imong phone? so kung maguba gyud siya, pulihan na nila ug bag-o.

    @riclags
    thanks for the info pre.
yup, my phone is still under warranty. barely.
warranty will expire on jan 20, 2005.

ang ako lang pre kay dili kaayo accomodating ang semicon cebu
unya dili kaau friendly ila mga policy like why can't i talk to the technician?
unya ngano dili cla mo offer ug service unit in such a case.
i think the service unit policy is very important for a "Nokia Care" center.
that would live up to/emphasize the "Care" part, wouldn't it?
being without a phone for 3 weeks is very inconvenient.

there's one thing nice that happened though.
i went to globe and explain my dilemna hoping i could get a service unit from them.
well sadly they're out of service units. i don't know if that really was the case but i would
like to believe it was. the customer service personnel was very accomodating. she even
volunteered to call semicon to find out what exactly happened to my phone. the
explanation she relayed to me was not even that helpful but the fact that she did
bother was enough. she was also the customer service personnel who gave me a warranty
certificate coz i didn't have my receipt with me when i went to semicon. things like these,
tiny details really, is what customer service is all about. anyway, if you guys ever have
globe concerns, go to globe sm, counter no 4.

    hehehe.
i'm actually hoping nokia would replace me with a brand new phone.
it would at least ease the pain of waiting for 3 weeks.

    the phone was working perfectly.
the night before the upgrade, i synced my contacts/calendars/tasks to outlook,
copied files from the phone to my pc.
basically, i was backing up important data from my phone to my pc.
    all done via bluetooth.

i left my phone at around 1:30pm and was to told to pick it up at 4pm. fine and dandy.
went back to semicon at around 7:30pm to pick it up but i was told there was
something wrong with my rom and they can't upgrade. i was told that they need
to replace the rom and that i'll have to come back today. well i asked for an assurance
that they'll have my phone ready by 12noon today but they can't give me that.
left their office and was very disappointed. i was thinking, why didn't they just replace the rom?
    they had the whole afternoon.

called them at around 11am today to check if they'll be able to finish my phone by 12noon.
guess what? "sir, your phone will need a high level repair and will be sending it to nokia.
you will have to wait 2-3 weeks before you'll get your phone back".
from a simple firmware upgrade, they have managed to messed up a perfectly working phone.
how could that be? are they not an accredited "Nokia Care" center? i mean a two-bit cellshop
could have done a better job. a firmware upgrade is a pretty simple thing to do given you
have the right equipment. at most times it's not even invasive. i know most people here, people
who pride themselves as being geek, with the proper equipment could upgrade any hardware
with one hand tied behind their back.

this is incompetence, pure and simple.
unless anyone could prove it otherwise, this is what i will conclude.

if anyone here is from semicon please prove me wrong.
i can't seem to get a straight answer from you people.
and why can't a customer talk to the technician who did the repair/upgrade?
don't you know how painful it is for a geek to listen to a customer service rep trying to
explain what went wrong? if a customer wishes to speak to a tech person, let them.
btw, my job no is 69586, dated jan 10, 2005.
na, mao na na...you can find it all over this forum i posted warnings on SEMICON service....never go there...mahay lang mo...(aside from the lucky few...who will eventually regret going back there)

maypa mapariha mo namo ni shadow...GIZMO CELLPHONE WIZARD nalang mo pa upgrade...450 is very little money to pay for instant service and satifaction

i bet you wish you could turned back time now and pay gizmo the 450 and wait 15mins for the upgrade to be done right infront of you.

BTW, note your IMEI when you get back your phone possible na gi swapan (im sure maka pa lusot na sila) na sa tech didto sa sulod gi ilisan ka ug guba mao nato iya baligya sa lain ug mahal and ikaw pa wait for the replacement from nokia. mao na ilang underground activity.

i had a friend who had this same problem, the phone can be upgraded without killing it at gizmo...in fact, gizmo was able to revive the unit killed by semicon with this problem without tampring with the hardware. however guba gyapon ang BT since damage man ang bt hardware but the phone is working perfectly without bt function. still, minimal ang nagasto...kaysa ilisan ang part na guba. btw,none-warranty na man ang unit.

i got a call that my phone was ready on jan 19 but when i came to
pick it up, i found out that the version is still 4.19. really funny coz after all the
whole mess started because of me wanting 5.27. so i left it to have it
flashed and this time they didn't mess it up.

i got my phone back on jan 20.
i didn't receive a new unit but they said i have a new board.
    whatever, i didn't mind.
btw, jan 20 is a very special day for my phone coz that's the day its warranty ends.
that's the great thing about warranties.

    @greyunit
bai you're right, i could have it worked on somewhere else, pay 450 and be done with it in 15mins.
but what if that somewhere messed it up, i might end up paying for the whole repair.
i was then still under warranty and the sanest thing to do is have it done officially.
it would have been foolish of me to have done otherwise. my only mistake
was going to semicon instead of going directly to brightpoint. if only brightpoint is located in sm

i think some people are not aware of this, software upgrades are covered under the warranty
agreement. you don't have to pay for it. having your phone flashed by someone other than
nokia care voids your warranty. having your phone touched by someone other than nokia care
voids your warranty. doing anything that voids your warranty is foolish. i don't want to do
    anything foolish

with regards to semicon's "swapan/palusot", i hope they don't do that but if they do,
    well there's karma
