Thread: Sola Scriptura

  1. #11

Whether one believes in Sola Scriptura or not, the Bible remains a reasonable source of Christian teachings.

Also, material not directly found in the Bible cannot be avoided by any church, especially in the long term, since religious leaders have to say something. No one wants to simply repeat the Bible. Everyone wants to make comment about it. These comments eventually become part of that church's heritage.

When these commentaries are documented and organized, they can (and some do) become the official teachings of that church.

Tradition is another matter that cannot be avoided by any church in the long term. Any group eventually develops its own culture (or subculture). They will eventually form their preferred or familiar way of understanding and doing things. Culture held long enough can be considered tradition by the succeeding generations.

    so AGREE.

    but so sad:
Catholic Virginian, October 3, 1947, p. 9, article "To Tell You the Truth
"For example, nowhere in the Bible do we find that Christ or the Apostles ordered that the Sabbath be changed from Saturday to Sunday. We have the commandment of God given to Moses to keep holy the Sabbath day, that is the 7th day of the week, Saturday. Today most Christians keep Sunday because it has been revealed to us by the [Roman Catholic] church outside the Bible."

Sa ako lang, if it's a good thing, something is better than nothing. Here is part of my previous post regarding the Sabbath:

It's not Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday, because we count our days beginning midnight. The Jews, whom Sabbath comes from, count their days beginning sunset.
