I have a bit of favoritism depending on what I use them for...
Desktop PATA: Western Digital
Desktop SATA: Hitachi
Notebook HD: Hitachi
SCSI: Seagate

Seagate. Based from experience, durable.![]()
those are all good brands.. but just some things to consider:
- seagate is acquiring maxtor: http://techreport.com/onearticle.x/9177
so i don't know if they will continue to sell drives under the maxtor name
but this move is sure to improve their HD technology.
- if you have money to spare go with the WD Raptor X
i'm sure most enthusiasts are familiar with this drive..
here are some benchmarks - http://www.anandtech.com/storage/sho...spx?i=2690&p=7
FYI, IBM doesn't make hard drives anymore. They've sold off their hard disk division to Hitachi.

ako kahadlokan sa SEAGATE kay maglagutok, murag naay bearing sa ilawom nga napulpog... kuyawan ko magcrash...
actually i like my WD cool n quite
Western Digital here. =)So far I have no problem with my 40gb Caviar HDD. Hope it won't die too soon.
il go for seagate..so far so good.hopefully no issues with it.
western digital, if stocks were easily available locally... Maxtor does the job tooo, nindot ang supply diri.. naa sila mga 8MB cache na pATA...
it cant be deny that every HD cud crash.... so just be careful... as much as possible
