i dont know if its offial.. but i guess it is.

    DreamWorks dumps AMD

In 2005, AMD got an exclusive three-year contract with Dreamworks to supply the Glendale studio with processors and necessary equipment. However, Dreamworks is now going with Intel due to performance reasons.

Apparently, DreamWorks plans to make their films in “stereoscopic 3D”, which is quite power hungry. DreamWorks Animation Chief Executive, Jeffrey Katzenberg, officially stated how the company is now exclusive to Intel.

He also said how Intel’s chips will speed up production and change the way the artists work. Still, although we doubt it’ll actually change the way they work, his statement that their ambitious program “needs the capabilities of Intel to achieve it” somewhat paints the picture of how things are going on the market.

"It's a much more ambitious program, and we need the capabilities of Intel to achieve it."
Using Intel's chips will speed up production, changing the way the studio's animation artists work, he said.

    ouch~

This is really bad for AMD...
I don't know until when AMD can keep up with these losses...
Could we be witnessing the beginning of the end for AMD?

nah its too immature to say so.

but if AMD cant do good on its 45nm proc.. then they should have a problem..

    anywayz.. heres a new.

AMD to file a big loss in Q2 2008
AMD will again announce a big loss in Q2 2008 but this is not really a surprise. We heard that this time around the loss will get to over 300 million but we cannot confirm this number 100 percent.

AMD CPU sales and average selling prices are to blame for such weak results but no one actually expects AMD will start making any serious money anytime soon.

AMD is planning to get back to profitability this year and firing 10 percent of its stuff might really save some money but they need to get better CPU to really fix things.

The biggest issue today is that AMD’s 2009 roadmap doesn’t look that rosy as we have a strong feeling that Intel will again dominate with little competition in most of next year.

AMD and Nvidia chose a bad year to mess things up as Intel hasn't had a stronger roadmap for the last ten years.

    ouchy!

    ----------------------
Shares of DreamWorks Animation climbed 89 cents to $29.65. AMD, rose 15 cents to $5.53. Intel gained 21 cents to $20.92.

Santa Clara, Calif.-based Intel's share of the server market increased to 87.5% in the first quarter this year, from 84.8% a year earlier, according to Mercury Research.

Sunnyvale, Calif.-based AMD's market share fell to 12.5% from 15.2%.

really a bad year for AMD and maybe next year... i've heard from the news that they are building a 3 billion 32nm fab in New York. Hope they will at least say somehow be on the road.. I know Intel for sure are making their R & D ahead ten years of its prototype for future processors. Maybe that time if AMD makes that big investment to sustain the processor industry. Correct me if i'm wrong with this

    ur right.

here the link... AMD to build $3.5bn fab in New York | Register Hardware

    but..

    AMD's CEO to finally depart?

We heard that there is a big chance that Hector Ruiz will go into retirement or leave AMD sooner rather than later. This chap didn’t do particularly well in the last few years. Dirk Meyer, the second guy in charge, should take the helm and since he knows a hell of a lot more about CPUs than Hector, AMD might have some chances after all.

We are sure that AMD can get a better leader than Hector, but in all fairness the chap was CEO at the great times when K8 was a great CPU so we have to give him a credit at least for something.

We believe that AMD will be better off without him but this is something that most of the people share with us.

bye bye hector.... uve been good.. but C2D is just too strong.. hahahaha

yeah C2D is strong... AMD point that as their priority list.. hehe. Hector is good but i hope Meyer can perform better than Hector.. We'll just see if this 32nm fab for AMD perform soon.... Coming Soon....

yeah.. hector wa good at K8... but when Core architecture came out.. he gone berzerk na rattle.. hahaha

he even made a Quadfather.. kung ka remmber lang mo... na 2 ka cpu in 1 mobo. just like Skullstrial.

but the prob is super hot super power hungry super epiv fail hehehe.

i cant wait for AMD to retaliate.... wohoo.. more price cuts. weeee

price cuts for phenom X4. may unta barato na.... they have great processor architecture and doesn't even bother to take a look at it to outpace with Intel..

Not only is AMD taking losses in the CPU scene but also in the workstation GPU scene. Right now AMD-ATI is left in the dust by Nvidia in the 3d industry. Ati doesn't have a decent FireGL card to counter nvidia's quadro fx series and the quadro plex. Plus nvidia is quite known on all autodesk softwares as the best graphics card provider for 3d application. Autodesk by the way owns most of the major 3d applications including Maya, 3ds max and Autocad.

hopefully AMD would bounce back so we'll see some price cuts from intel and nvidia in the future.
