when it says SLI (Nvidia) or Crossfire (ATI) ready means that mobo can support having 2 vc's
    in SLI/Crossfire mode.

if your not going to do a crossfire (or just 1vc) you can use either a Nvidia/Ati cards.
nakoi pangutana what if i have an on board video card will the 8800GT or HD 3870 will stack up with it?

what do you mean by "stack" up with?

when you have a vc + onboard video (its either you use one of them) Cant be both at the same time. (unless you want to use the dual monitor setup) but it wont stack/add the mem of it. ie onboard video = 256mb, ur 8800xx = 512mb, it wont be 768mb total.

8800gt is the better choice... unless the 3870 costs 30% less than the 8800gt

if you have a decent 500watts power supply, then ok na kaayo... you don't have to upgrade it... it can easily handle either 3870 or 8800gt... wala lang kay sli or xfire.

    so far from reading..
intel chipsets will only support CROSSFIRE...
Nvidia chipsets will only support SLI...

if you want to go SLI you will need to purchase NVIDIA based chipset boards..

about your previous query if your onboard will stack with your new purchased PCI-E card..
    - it will not.. not unless if your motherboard/ chipset was marketed with hybrid crossfire capability.. where the use of on board vga + additional PCI-E card is possible..

basically from what you mentioned you'll be playing games.. performance-wise.. 8800gt OC is a better choice for VC.. only go 3870 if you prefer better image quality than performance..
