REINFORCEMENTS composed of some 100 troops from the Light Armor Brigade, eight battle tanks, and three patrol vehicles arrived in Camp Aguinaldo from Camp O'Donnel in Capas town, Tarlac province north of Manila Friday morning, after the military claimed to have foiled a
plot to unseat President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
"This is for the government upon the instruction of the Chief of Staff," Armed Forces Northern Luzon (Nolcom) spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Preme Monta said in a phone interview.
"We have deployed a substantial number of troops… This is an authorized troop movement," Monta said.
The heavily armed soldiers, seven Simba tanks, one Armored Personnel Carrier (APC), two hummer vehicles, and one six-by-six truck arrived at the Camp Aguinaldo grandstand before 8 a.m.
