my take on the topic is this: while perhaps being an oscar nominated/winning film doeas not a good film make, it all boils down to personal preference. i like to watch the films i want to watch, even if some people don't like those films.

Passion of the Christ? cmon. that bloodfest?
there are lots of other considerations before a film enters the oscars. the critics circle for one. from my experience, movies i've seen that are nominated have always been good. its the specific audience that needs to do thorough scrutiny to truly appreciate a film. a film just doesnt pop up in the nominee list, its been rounding up the circles in months. for people to say that its boring this boring that, i say watch the film a 2nd or 3rd time or read an unbiased review so you can get the nuances.
Maybe you lacked sleep while watching "The Hours"..(peace!)..Other people find Oscar nominated films boring bec. of the movie's length of time, conversations in the film are sometimes deep and requires a lot of attention from the viewers, detailed scenes..these qualities in film help people to experience what it feels like to be in the shoes of the characters...usually, i feel that way..when i saw "Schindler's List" and "Beautiful Life", i felt as if I was one the refugees bearing witness to what's happening during those depressing times..(I guess, my imagination is working so well)..
Sakto ka. Even in Oscars there is really politics. Dont you know why the Passion of Christ was not nominated? Its because there are so many Jews and anti Catholics in Hollywood. If you have an award dapat objective ang pag ka determined dili kay SUBJECTIVE. Like can the jurors ignore the fact sa impact sa storyline, sa screenplay, sa costume, sa cinematography, sa sound. I mean PASSION OF CHRIST is really a superb movie. Maka touch gyud. Na best picture man gani tong Shakespear in Love o di ba kaha tong American Beauty or the English Patient.Originally Posted by fingolfin
Naa lang gyud anti Catholic bias sa hollywood.
I know nga deep inside sa mga nakakita sa Passion of Christ nga angayan gyud to ma best picture.
Di man. I have enough sleep. Dili lang gyud interesting ang topic. Whats interesting about committing suicide anyway.Originally Posted by klavel
Deep conversations?
Tan awa karun. Na nominated ang PARADISE NOW, a Palestinian movie about suicide bombing. Relevant man sa ilaha. See?
i agree..i think "Passion of Christ" did not garnered even a single nomination sa Oscars (sakto ba?!)..for me, it was the most beautiful film in all films about Jesus Christ and that strongly depicts His sufferings...Originally Posted by mosimos

suicide might not be interesting to you but it is interesting to someone else, there are different stories, not all of them can catch your attention....
bsides, the OSCAR group is composed mostly of ILLUMINATI members...
