Re: Mary of Magdala, 7 interesting things to know about her (extrabiblical & historical info)
1. She came from a wealthy family, kapatid ni Lazarus & Martha-the royal decendants of the House of David. In fact, they live in a castle. Their father is a rich noble businessman named Syrus
2. She is a High Priestess of the Temple of Ishtar, a cult of Astarte, Keeper of the Doves
3. She is NOT REALLY a prostitute by profession although she was known to succumb to the ways of the flesh as she was lavish and had an extravagant lifestyle of which people at that time detested. The idea that she was a prostitute originated in the sixth century, when Pope Gregory I identified her as both the woman spoken of in Luke 7:37(the stoned woman), and the woman who washed Jesus’ feet with her hair.
4. She provided Jesus' and disciples financial support ("ministered to him of her substance").
5. Some say that the weddng of Canaan was Jesus' and Mary's wedding since Jesus acted as if he were the groom giving orders to the slaves and it was Martha who gave him authority to do so. What they didn't know was that Jesus was a regular guest at that household (if it were Martha's house) since they are really related by blood (also with Mary Magdalene) and for that reason was comfortable giving orders
5. Mary was a chief disciple, loved in a more intimate way than the other apostles and privy to the more esoteric teachings of Yeshua.
6. After Jesus rose from his death, she went to Tiberias and showed an egg to represent Christ's resurrection. Tiberias disregarded her claims and said that no man could do that just like the chances of an egg turning red. And the egg miraculously did turn red.
7. She preached with Martha and other baptized disciples in Marsielles, now called France. She retired in penitentiary seclusion at the caves of Sainte-Baumes at the age of 72 where she was laid at the Church of Maximim.
If you could add more historical info...it would be highly be appreciated.
Om shanti!
