in the next 50 years? i think dugay na kaayo na, make it shorter. how long would it take for an average person to learn english? For sure, China and India is doing something about English Proficiency. We better watch out.

Widen your career options guys, I know, most people in the call center industry has some impressive degrees to back them up and more than enough to find better(other) jobs.

    just my two cents

I agree, I say 20 years max. China is fast catching up, they're even hiring native English speakers to teach them the language.

probably, there would be mergers/consolidations in the future...knowing that there are so many call center establishments existing lately, competition is quite stiff!!

i guess its not only with the language ...its with the culture as well..amongst these countries, the phils are more attached to the west... on the phone, we pinoys can relate more to our callers than these chinese and indians.....

ive talked with a Delta agent coming from India, and mah god he sounds so robotic! tried doing some chit chat...d jud sya ka ride on! good communication skills...semi western culture....these are the things we pinoys got that indians and chinese dont have...

with us pinoys...it comes out naturally!

i agree TJ, it comes naturally WITH PRACTICE. how long did it take you to learn? most of us learned english since kindergarten...

and since english has been the "standard-language" for business, don't you think countries like China and India are not doing something about it?

be aware that China is one of the few Asian Countries hiring ESL/TESL teachers... and that's not slacking.

well, i guess that's a few more years to go, so let's be prepared.

as far as I know, mastery of the english language and attachment to the Western culture ra atong advantage, China and India have proven themselves in the field of Technology, and where are we in the picture?

to prove that, look behind most electronic gadgets you have at home or at the office, MADE/ASSEMBLED IN CHINA.

Software engineers are ofcourse overflowing in INDIA, correct me if i'm wrong, but the answers are evident, most tech supports started in India. they are just transferred to the Phils because of "accent-problem."

Let's not lose our competitive edge, learn new tricks, and not brag with the english that comes naturally, because we learned it, and they TOO CAN!!!

    I've learnt it since PREP!Â*

just to set the records straight!!!! First, with my post awhile ago...if u ll read it more CAREFULLY, you'll realize that i m not merely talking about our ENGLISH alone as what ur trying to convey!

Second, I never did dispute the fact that China and India arent doing anything about their English skills...

all i was trying to say...is that if u ll add up all the skills needed for good customer service and support (what call centers need), with us pinoys...it comes NATURALLY! and whats wrong with bragging it?

someone may speak English as fluent as he can.....but with out the ingredients needed for good Customer Support.... YOUR USELESS!

Of course i do agree with u when u said that we need to learn new skills and not lose our competitive edge! I bet thats the reason why schools offering customer service courses are sprouting up like mushrooms wherever this part of the archipelago u ll go!
