I vaguely remember reading a game in a book about the best short games written in BASIC (yes, dugay na, and that was around early 90's). If I remember it right, the game may have been named Lisa.
All it does is to respond using a list of answers, in sequence from first to last. I think that program is smarter than this one, because it talks to you first, thereby setting the tone and direction of the succeeding conversation.
It starts with something like "Hi, I’m Lisa. What your name?" Then whatever your answer, it responds with something like "Hello <your answer>.” and so on, the “conversation” goes.
The trick is not the programming ability of the creator, but his or her knowledge of human nature. =)
