Mahal gyud ang CALs. Micro$oft makes money.
    Citrix also is very expensive.

VNC is the free/open-source alternative to Terminal Services.

mahal bitaw...ok ang VNC kaso wala lang single login...we have multiple users man gud that need to connect remotely to our server to run some application program..share files and allow printing to local ...

Yes VNC is only single view on Windows.
In linux, you could run multiple instances of VNC and users can connect to each different port/instance.

Use na lang Windows XP as the application server (Remote Desktop). The database on Win2003.
XP does not need CALs to enable Terminal Services.

Pwede i-virtualize ang WinXP sa imong Win2003.
    Slower lang ug gamay.

CALs are either per user or connection. I-setup ni didto sa License Manager, AFAIK.

I think 5 is enough if you set it as "per connection", unless there are more than 5 connections in the server at one time.

Also, having more than 5 simultaneous apps running may slow the server down.
Thus when having more than 5 connections, it is recommended to switch to 2-tier or 3-tier application architecture. This will unload some processing on the server and distribute them to each client.

i tried windows xp rdp but it only allows one session...mo logout ang currently login user if naay mo login bag-o...dili sya multisession...we have more than 5 users who will need to remote simultaneously .as of now, my server performace is running normal(no problem)...what do you mean by 2-tier or 3-tier?sory i dont have any idea.
CAL has only two options : per user or per device.i chose per device.

Mao ba, single log-in ra diay ang XP.

About Multitier architecture (sometimes called client/server) , read it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multitier_architecture

This unloads some of the server's processing to the client.
