Why do we need manila to get famous?

manila has a good number of cities, compared sa cebu around 5 lang siguro. tanan klase nga taw naa sa manila ang pinaka kurat ug ang pinaka yugmok present tanan dinhi! we must be proud of cebuano music, dili baduy! there was a study conducted daw na cebuanos have better taste in music than in any other tribes in the philippines.

by the way, congratz dice & K9's ITSUMO (sigeg patukar sa mga malls dinhi, sa mga gimmikan, radio stations and especially sa mga tv shows pero wa pa man nuon ko na pul-an!). i think they made cebuano music more accessible in the manila music arena. Serendipity's YOU ARE THE ONE is now hitting on the charts (which was first heard in cebu two years ago i think). for sure the rest of the cebuano bands will follow! good luck!

There are several reasons and factors why. It is correct that Cebu has density compared to Manila. For many years, Manila has been the focus for commercial growth. Music isn't a top priority in our basic needs. Heck, entertainment is not a need. It's a want. I would like to enumerate some factors that I think may have hindered us.

1) We are being "media-manipulated". Whatever the media says, we do. Theoretically that is. And since the media capital is Manila, then it also follows that music has to be "rained" down from there. It's the most logical way for now.

2) Local bands here don't really take things seriously. They easily give up on limitations such as less venues, geographical boundaries, and so on. Most importantly, the bands easily give up if they have no money. Money is a basic need yes but it comes and go. Integrity doesn't. Perserverance- maybe. Passion cannot be disputed. If you at least have all these, money can still be earned. All the bands need is open-mindedness.

3) If we do rant about the why's and the "how-come-it-doesnt-happen-in-cebu" statements, it's almost like saying you spent most of your time observing and not doing anything about it. This is not a task of just one person. This is a task for everyone, by everyone, and with everyone. It's a community effort. Then upon doing so, a culture begins. Many bands depend too much on radio airplays which does only so much in local mileage. Think about the internet too. At this age, there are so many options to do. Maybe the next time we ask these questions, try not to address your concerns to the audience. Address it to the media (radio in particular) why they don't play local music. Some maybe. Then perhaps we'll learn something new and start from there. The audience are just consumers. They believe and do what the media says.

The bottom line is, it is a progressive and learning effort. A community based concern. Its success doesn't and cannot happen overnight.

cebu starts to strive and carve for a good name in music industry....

cebu is highly considered as a reggae capital in the philippines and i think it is a great sign of a huge step to the top of making your dreams possible.

Ey Velvet! Creating good music is just one part of the story. Becoming famous is another. If an artist doesn't want to get famous, fine! But if his goal is to bring his music to as many ears as possible, then popluarity really helps a lot. Reputation creates credibility. Good product creates good reputation. Reputation can also mean your are popular. Popularity can do so much good for an artist (or even other businesses) if one wishes to improve himself. It can do a lot with expanding your audience too. Fame is not something to despise of but to take advantage of. Fame is not bad at all.

r/brey! you are correct. The beatles started their way out in Germany, not in Liverpool. Jesus Christ wasn't popular in Nazareth. Moving on to another place could mean bringing your music to another audience. that could also spell more people grabbing the chance to listen to your songs.

the big producers/ music companies are stationed in manila. they have the capacity to market your music to a wider audience (and i mean national audience) coz they could advertise ur album via national tv. cebu has limited capacity for that, unfortunately. but i agree cebuanos produce and appreciate good music, possibly even better than the manilenos (regionalism at play!). well musicians could now distribute their music through the internet and that doesnt require any contract/help from any recording industry i gez. if ur into music and wanna share ur talent, distribute it via the internet like what U2 is doin and u cud get the attention u want from d world...
