Let us say your work is 8 hours so that is from 10PM-6AM Opposite to the usual working and sleeping time. your sleeping zone is 730AM-330PM and that's 8hrs. prior to that zone you have an allocated 1hr and a half for doing such stuff like..heading home, take a shower, sit back relax play and listen to the slowest beat of music u like..make sure your room is quitely ventilated and dark, nature fresh smell..if this stuff still doesnt work for you..check out ANANDA MARGA YOGA near Dynaty Inn in capitol site not far from Juvens Grill.they have a nice instructional AUDIO CD of Deep Relaxation by DADA DHARMAVEDANANDA called YOGA NIDRA(DEEP RELAXATION) it really works for me..as a Programmer I used to have dis problem before but now.. I can sleep whenever I want to..I also Enrolled in their Yoga, and Meditation class..and have been part of this Internationaly recognize ANANDA MARGA organization.. check out www.anandamarga.org www.anandamarga.net and www.amwelness.org

    YOGA NIDRA(DEEP RELAXATION)
It is to be understood that ordinary sleep is not relaxation, for tensions cannot always be resolved completely in ordinary sleep. Yoga Nidra is qualitatively different relaxation. It is a 'sleep' where all the burdens are thrown off to attain more blissful state of awareness, a relaxation much more intense than ordinary sleep.
Yoga Nidra means yogic sleep, a state of conscious deep sleep for extreme relaxation and subtler spiritual exploration. ...Yoga Nidra means Yogic Sleep. It is a state of conscious Deep Sleep However, in Yoga Nidra, you leave the Waking state, go past the Dreaming state

    The Technique
Usually it takes from twenty to forty minutes to complete one Yoga Nidra session. The procedure is carried out by first doing a few asanas -practicing a few postures. Then the person lies on his or her back in totally relaxed posture (shavasana -posture simulating dead body). Eyes are lightly closed, arms are kept with palms facing upwards and fingers are half lifted from the ground, breathing is natural and quiet.

dont think about work or anything else before you sleep... occupying your mind with these thoughts would just stop you from being able to get your rest....

so when ur in your bed, before your about to sleep, dont think about anything... enjoy you rest...nyt2

i also work online and always in graveyard hours...

    my tip..

just before your shft ends..cguro mga 20 mins..drink milk-pure milk, no sugar, may it be powdered or liquid..

no exercises or anything na mgamit imo kusog

your room must be condusive to sleeping..dim lighted..you can put dark curtains/draperies or put something to cover the windows..or small things like soft pillows and comfy bed-all clean!

no loud music or noise that could hamper your sleep..

and when you're in bed, avoid worrying..that's the culprit

and though our sleep is as irregular with our shifts,it's important to keep a balanced and healthy life..eat healthy food and exercise..brisk walking or jogging (that'll will do) or engage in a sport you love doing..

    mao lang..hope this will help..

PS: i don't really agree taking any medication.Whatever argument there is..taking medication has ill side effects.

there is a belief (contemporary gestalt psychology) that insomnia is partly caused by unfinished business, when you close your eyes and think of things that you want to do or should have done, and plan to do, you will have trouble sleeping. and the more you try to force yourself to sleep, the harder it becomes for you to actually go to sleep. for sleep to come, you will have to address these unfinished business that are preventing you from sleeping.
if you cannot bring closure to these unfinished business in reality because of practical reasons, then try to do so in fantasy.

for example, you are worried because you are almost out of milk and you want to buy some, but you cannot actually do so at three o clock in the morning with all the supermarkets closed, so you do the next best thing, in your you mind visualize that you are buying milk. of course this is not a substitute for the real action iself, but it helps to bring you peace of mind. you will have to tell yourself though that you will really do the planned action the next day, more importantly you will have to believe that you really will do the proposed course of action. once you have comforted yourself that you have done all that you can for the given situation under the circumstances, peace of mind is achieved and sleep will hopefully follow.

you should also try to keep your bedroom as free from distractions as possible, no tv, no entertainment,etc.. the bed is after all, only for *** and sleep. and *** by the way, being a physically exhaustive activity, is also conducive to sleep.
