it seems to me that you have saturated yourself too much with word connotations that you missed the actual definition of the word.

no. i used the word "radical" as an adjective to describe the kind of change that i believe should be done. and by "radical" i mean an overwhelming shift or change from its current state, a complete overhaul of the media industry and how it works. the word "radical" of course, is relative to that which it is being compared to or applied to. that is why, the economics of "communism" or "socialism" can be called a "radical change" for capitalist oriented economies, and vice versa.

i hope you do not again fall to how words with concrete meanings are twisted and used pejoratively at certain institutions or ideologies. it does not really do much to understand things as they really are.

A radical change is indeed, correct. But how can we do it? No matter what these TV stations say, they are not after "serbisyo publiko" but after profits and higher ratings.

Unfortunately, the masa is persuaded with all the drama these TV stations are saying. I don't know why even speculations are treated as news these days.

ABS-CBN THE MOST IRRESPONSIBLE MEDIA OUTFIT IN THE PHILLIPINES. THEY TWIST FACTS TO SENSATIONALIZE ISSUES PARA MO RATE SILA AND PROTECT THEIR EQUALLY IRRESPONSIBLE REPORTERS LIKE JUNRIE HIDALGO, LEO LASTIMOSA. THEN WHEN PUSH COMES TO SHOVE, THEY SAY MECHANICAL GLITCH DAYUN" HAHAY NI SILA.

Reminders to ALL: RULE # 8. Don't use needless or excessive usage of Line-breaks, ALL-CAPS, nested quotes "quoting of quotes" (max is 3), GIANT fonts, swearing or derogatory terms.

what i believe should be remembered is that how mass media today (its social, cultural and economic aspects) is but an outcrop of a much larger socio-economic structure that permits and even lauds profit as the main impetus for supposed public service. one can say that it grows from the very same trunk where the culture of graft and corruption, and as well as a culture of impunity, grows out of.

this only means that we can never solve the problem of a profit-oriented media if we focus on it alone. media, being an essential element for opinion making affects and is affected by public opinion. being held hostage by profit margins and rating wars, changing it would be something that cannot be easily done, unless other sectors' orientations (business, government) change themselves, as these too have an effect on how the "business of public service" is done.

Unfortunately, the masa is persuaded with all the drama these TV stations are saying. I don't know why even speculations are treated as news these days.
it's ultimately a question of power, hence politics.

if you'd apply it to the philippine context, Gramsci's theory of cultural hegemony fits like a glove on how the elite (both business and government whose lines are blurring nowadays) controls the mindset and attitudes of the majority.

u know wat? i think the Senate should take notice on this ruthless ratings war thingy between the 2 networks and also to study wats going on with this rather bizarre media culture nowadays...at least this issue of "irresponsible media" takes a legislative beating...

pero laina cguro tanawon noh kung ang ABS ug GMA ang ipang investigate sa House nya cla ra gihapon ang mo-cover sa aning senate hearing...nyahaha

The media has this "above it all" stance which I dislike. As of the moment, it would be very hard to implement any form of change with the way the media works.
