also, since this is member-led, we encourage participants to sign up also for the 3-man committee nga mag usab usab ang composition monthly. this committee leads the group in all aspects--book choice, preparations, facilitation, etc. this makes it easier for the others to just concentrate on reading the book and preparing for the discussion.

as your 3-man committee for the month of january, luthienne, josephdc and I have set the form and basic structure of the bookclub enough for us to start. we believe it's just right--not too loose, not too structured.

sige, mamasa na ta sa sa libro. wa pa ko kasugod...nahadlok ko kay murag kuyawan ko sa story. tried to watch the movie version pero wa ko nidayun kay nahadlok ko...nagdamgo pa jud ko ug ungo ungo adtong gabhi-una tsk tsk tsk...but i'm committed...hala, basahon jud!

between now and january 26 we'll have all updates here (official info from luthienne, she is our main contact person).

and gina encourage sad ang tanan mo volunteer sa mga sumusunod nga 3-man committee. salamat!
ok . thanks for the info. Yah, im interested. i'll check on this thread once ina wile for updates.

    ^ Good question.

    Our bookclub's goal/mission/vision:

    1. Encourage reading among Filipinos. Although non-Filipinos are also welcome.
    2. Broaden one's horizons and understanding by venturing beyond one's comfort zone through a wide selection of books and through other members' opinions during discussions.
    3. Develop certain skills. The 3-man committee is one example. Click here for a more detailed explanation.

The primary aim is to encourage reading. The rest are what follows by belonging in a reading group, including such skills as socialization, discipline etc. Kung sa lain pang pagka sulti, daghang BONUS ni.

@gareb: Only during the discussion; we do not want to detract from it do we?
I suppose when the refreshments are served...

@charmz: Yep. We discuss one book every month. But it might be necessary to conduct meetings other than the regular 'meeting for the book discussion.' Like we might have a meeting to consider which book to discuss the next month.
