Don't get your hopes up . For those who aren't aware , the Conservatives (majority government) are working on a massive adjustment on immigration . There's a huge backlog on immigration and work visas .

Asa na man to iStoryan nga taga Calgary nga "Harper" kuno siya ...

Ha! Kahinumdum pa ko ani sa PDOS! Wa man mi nagabuhat ato, wa ko kahibaw kung ngano. Murag kadto ra lagi kwarta ila main concern.. Dali raman ang proseso sa pagsulod sa airport diha, galibog lang mi ngadto sa may stop-over kay first time then kuyog'2 ra mi sa panon pag abot sa Airport ngari.

About sa listing, wala mi gihatag nga lista/checklist. Maybe depende sa province?

I'll post excerpts from the news ...

The Conservatives have made it no secret that their government plans to reform the immigration process to better coincide with Canada’s economic needs.

The view was underlined by Immigration Minister Jason Kenney in a speech to the Economic Club of Canada on Monday.

He said with so many people wanting to come to Canada, the country can afford to be picky about who it allows in. Do you mean Kenney?

“It’s time for some frank discussion about the need for transformational change in our immigration programs. We need to select newcomers who fill the job shortages that exist,” Kenney said.

Power to the provinces: The government is enlisting the provinces’ help eliminating the backlog in immigration applications. Kenney recently announced a pilot program that would allow the provinces to cherry-pick the immigrants they want as long as they select them from the existing back log of skilled worker applications. Each province could accept an additional 1,500 immigrants under this program – making a small dent in the backlog of 300,000 in the skilled worker category.

Language requirements: In January, Kenney said he wanted a higher minimum language standard for all provincial nominees.

Points system: The government is expected to change the current points system used to assess federal skilled worker applicants. The changes would likely place greater emphasis on language, skilled trades, younger workers and credentials that can be recognized easily.

Corporate head-hunting: In a previous speech, Kenney hinted that employers would soon be able to hand-pick prospective immigrants stuck in the backlog and send them to the front of the line to be assessed by the government.

Increasing investment: Currently Canada accepts immigrants who have $800,000 to invest in Canada. The government is currently exploring whether it should require immigrant investors to bring more money to the table.

In a January release, the Conservative Party of Canada stated that the Conservative Government was solving the immigration problems created by the former Liberal Government.

    Temporary Work Permits

The approval rates in 2006 and in 2010 are within one or two percentage points throughout the approval process.

    IMMIGRATION APPLICATIONS

    Immigrant Investor Program

To deal with a backlog, the Conservative Government capped the Immigrant Investor Program at 700 applications per year on July 1, 2011. The Conservative Government is not accepting any new applications under the Immigrant Investor Program. The Conservative Government has not indicated when, or if, it will accept new applications under the Immigrant Investor Program.

    Skilled Worker Program

In 2004, under the Liberal Government, the processing time for a Skilled Worker application was forty-three months. In February 2009, under the Conservative Government the processing time for Skilled Worker applications had risen to sixty-eight months.

In order to deal with the backlog, the Conservative Government introduced twenty-nine eligible occupations to the Skilled Worker Program in June 2010 and on July 1, 2011, set a limit of a maximum of 10,000 applications to be processed in the following twelve months. The Conservative Government is not accepting any new applications under the Skilled Worker Program.

The Conservative Government is allowing the provinces and territories to “cherry-pick” applications from the Skilled Worker Program instead of dealing with the applications on a first come, first serve basis.

Family Class Sponsorship (Parents and Grandparents)

On November 5, 2011, the Conservative Government announced that effective November 5, 2011, it was “putting in place a temporary pause of up to 24 months on the acceptance of new sponsorship applications for parents and grandparents.” This ‘temporary pause’ was to “prevent the build-up of an unmanageable number of new applications during these consultations and to further reduce the 165,000-strong backlog of parent and grandparent applicants”.

In order to allow parents and grandparents to visit Canada, the Conservative Government introduced the “Parent and Grandparent Super Visa”. Unfortunately, the financial commitments required to obtain a ‘Super Visa’ are prohibitive for most new Canadians.

While working on the backlog, by not accepting new applications, the Conservative Government is creating a situation where, once the moratorium is lifted an instant backlog will be created.

SOURCE: The Canadian National Newspaper: Conservatives play politics on Immigration Issue
There's an article published last week that immigrants came to Canada make less income than average Canadians . A study from the Simon Fraser University shows that the unemployment rate of newly-arrived immigrants rise to "almost" 15% from 11% from the year 2008 to 2010 . They argued that recent immigrants are having a hard time competing in the job market . The study also revealed that the recent immigrants are receiving "handouts" from the government - costing taxpayers between $16 and $23 billion a year.

So this could be the exact reason why the government are reforming the immigration policy .
