pro lay mkalupig ni ortiz oi... aside from quitting the fight, he admitted that he's young and didn't deserve to lose on his back... that was the worst interview I've ever heard... still, I think the guy has a bright future if he just sticks to the fight plan...

ALA Gym star AJ Banal will have his hands full as he is set to face tough Mexican Victor Proa on Aug. 29 at the Blaisdell Center in Hawaii.
ALA Promotions recently received a call from Solar Sports, which is closely working with Bob Arum’s Top Rank Promotions for the card, and informed them that Banal will be facing Proa in a 10-round non-title bout.
“Proa has a good record and is world-rated. He will be a good opponent for AJ,” said ALA Promotions president Michael Aldeguer in an interview with Sun.Star Cebu yesterday.
Like Banal, who is 19-1-1 with 16 knockouts, Proa also has a striking record of 26 wins, a loss and two draws with 19 stoppages. Proa’s only loss was from Raul Martinez, who was demolished by Nonito Donaire Jr. last April.
Test
Aldeguer believes that this will be a tough test for Banal.
“AJ needs this kind of fight to see how ready he is,” said Aldeguer.
Although Banal is facing a tough opponent, Aldeguer is confident with his training at the Wild Card Gym under ALA gym trainer Edmund Villamor and Manny Pacquiao’s coach Freddie Roach.
“He has learned a lot. His progress is good. This is the kind of exposure that we want for him in the States,” he said. “Freddie watches him in sparring and gives him tips,” Banal was supposed to fight in a six-round bout in the undercard of the title defense of fellow ALA boy and World Boxing Organization mini-flyweight king Donnie Nietes, who was set to face interim champion Manuel Vargas on Aug. 1. But the boxing event was postponed after sponsors backed out.

Calderon-Mayol II Sept. 12!
By Lee Bates
The highly anticipated rematch between unbeaten WBO light flyweight champion Ivan “Iron Boy” Calderon (32-0-1, 6 KOs) of Puerto Rico and 3 time world title challenger Rodel Mayol of the Phillipines (25-3-1, 19 KOs) is now official and will take place September 12. The event titled “Undefeated Champions”, will take place at the Coliseo Jose Miguel Agrelot in Hato Rey, Puerto Rico and is being promoted by PR Best Boxing (Ivan & Peter Rivera). Neither Calderon nor Mayol have fought since their bout this past June at the Madison Square Garden. The fight was halted after six rounds due to a cut suffered by Calderon as a result of an accidental headbutt in round four. The bout then went to the scorecards where one judge had it for Calderon, one had it for Mayol, and one had it even making the result a draw.
In the co-main event WBO super featherweight champion Ramon “Rocky” Martinez (22-0-1, 13 KOs) of Puerto Rico will make the first defense of his world title against former world title challenger Michael Lozada (31-5-1, 24 KOs) of Mexico. In his last bout Martinez defeated then champion Nicky Cook by 4th round TKO in Cook’s country of England this past March. Lozada enters the bout on a 2 bout win streak and in his previous title opportunity was defeated by unbeaten world champion Edwin Valero.
Tickets go on sale tomorrow and can be purchased at the the Ticket Pop or the box office at del Coliseo de Puerto Rico.
