Transport fare may go up by P0.50 next week

MINIMUM fares in Cebu may be increased to P7 next week, in the absence of any strong opposition during a public hearing yesterday by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) 7.

LTFRB 7 Director Romulo Bernardes said the hearing focused on another P0.50 provisional fare increase, pending resolution of the petition for a P2.50 increase filed by the Cebu Integrated Transport Service Cooperative (Citrasco) and Visayas United Drivers Transport Service Cooperative (Vudtrasco).

The first P0.50 provisional increase for this year was implemented last May 21.

Even the Office of the Solicitor General (OSG), represented by Cebu Provincial Prosecutor Pepita Jane Petralba, did not object to the proposed provisional increase. Petralba, however, objected to any increase that would raise the minimum fare beyond P8.
