Guys, just invest in what cannot be seen literally with our eyes. Invest in a good education, focus on your studies.

You can ask for a discounted price of the ID, not necessarily protest against it right away.

Di ba, they let go of the no long hair policy? Good news.

lol... we already asked for it but still no... the administration is not providing a healthy relationship with the students... last resort nanang rally after a serious of dialogues then walay nahitabo... then we have to result to a picket to show the admin that the students are really against these repressive policies

I have to agree with Jeffrey, set your priorities.

Repressive? Kanus-a pa gud na na repressive ang uniform, ang short hair ug ID?

Save your energy for more important things like when they don't allow you to have a student org, don't allow you to write in the student paper, dictate policy to the student government, refuse enrollees with political views the administration doesn't like, that's REAL oppression.

There's no problem regarding USC's standards when it comes to academics, the problem is that most students really don't know kung asa gyud ang kwarta moadto, and I don't think that it's still right to keep quiet and be submissive when money is in question.

--Where's the swipe device for the ID worth P250? USC do have an exam and test supplies fees, ngano pabayran pa man gyud ug P2 ang blue book? And besides, for the exam and test supplies fees worth P181.00 for the entire sem, pwede na man siguro blue book ang gamiton every exam, nganong yellow pad pa man gyud ang gamiton?

--What's the difference between the SSC fee and the council fee?

--Student affairs fee? Gibawalan man gani ang mga fraternities magregister when those are student organizations nya pabayron pa ug the same amount? The funny part, wa gitugtan ug register ang mga fraternities yet when naa'y mga major events ang USC, mga fraternities dayun ang unang tawagon para magmarshall, so ironic.

Those are just some of the concerns I normally hear from students and I'm sure daghan pa kaayo ug questions ang mga students, even teachers are complaining about the management of USC kay naa'y kaltas ilang mga sweldo.

True enough that the top priority of students enrolled is to have a degree, but di pud lalim mobayad lang sige yet we don't know asa padung ang kwarta and worse, we're not getting what we paid for. Moreklamo man gani ta nga kuwang ang sukli sa jeep nga tig piso piso ra na, how much more sa eskwelahan nga linibo na ang giistoryahan. The students are people who can think rationally and who will question once they see something worth questioning not robots who will follow everything the university implements. But tinuod man pud nga daghan pud kaayong mga estudyante ang gasamok samok lang pud, apil apil sa mga rallies without any definite cause.

Uy! Agree ko na there might be some legitimate grievances, but this thread is about the uniform, short hair and ID.

With regard to the student paper, I was editor of the Political Science organ, and it was my policy to refuse funding from the department mismo, otherwise, compromised ang independence. Those who want to revive the paper should come up with their own source of funds.

Re: the school paper, use your imagination pud, when funds were low, we just printed the whole thing in one broadsheet size page, then posted them in public places. Your first article could be, "CONTRIBUTE TO THE REVIVAL/CREATION OF A SCHOOL ORGAN".

I think it may have to be "creation" because if I remember correctly, "Today's Carolinian" is NOT a real student paper.

What I'm saying is, "IF YOU REALLY BELIEVE YOU NEED IT, YOU WILL MAKE IT HAPPEN". With or without the administration.

then what is wrong? Is there really something wrong?
the attitude of not being able to see the glaring mistake that has caused this situation to arise is the very same attitude that does not see the glaring mistake that has caused the squabbles happening between opposing interests, may it be on the halls of Congress or in the streets.
again, if i sell you this X , with all its conditions, then you bought it and later on you feel you dont like the conditions so you complain. There were no rights violated in this circumstance.
however we can try and commodify education and treat it like something that one buys from the supermarket, it will always escape such pigeonholing because it is a social commodity. education is a process of moulding minds and personalities, shaping world-views and honing individuals to become creatures capable of responsibly thinking for themselves, being able to be useful individuals in shaping society. i guess what is happening in USC is a case of the institution giving the students a magnifying glass to spot the errors of the world so that the students can change it, only for the students to see it first in the institution itself.

education should never be static in a sense that 'you should only expect what you pay for'. even the self-proclaimed 'liberal institution' that USC sees itself would agree to that. such 'static education' has been faced out long ago in the 80's it's a wonder how many can still stick to it. unfortunately, even the venerable USC cannot claim to practice what they preach. and that is the issue.

depende nana sa mailad. If you cant pay your tuition, you cant go to the board and tell them "WWJD, What would Jesus do?"
and you blame the students for the hypocrisy of commercialized 'Christian' education?
Everybody was making a noise when it comes to policies that are not that important, Uniform, long-hair, etc... but hardly have i heard a noise made by students complaining why the library was renovated in the middle of the semester.
how about the 'textbook scandal' that the students protested a few years back; an issue that caught the attention of the whole city, is that not important too? or the usual misappropriation of funds directed to spurious projects that could have been better spent on something useful? complaints have been circulating around USC's campuses for years, and curiously the same problems are not limited to USC only. the mid-sem renovation of the library may be dear to you, but to assure you, it's not the only issue there is.

this is not an isolated case. the very same things are happening in other schools and universities. policies that are unimaginable in top universities in the world, and even in our own Manila, are being imposed here with sheer disregard to how it affects the students.

instead of pitting one issue against another, instead of blaming the students for the policies of the administration, the problems that the students face inside the university should be seen in the context of how commercialized education has become, and to devise moves to control as much as possible through student pressure.

the question, of course, is where one stands.

“What we call chaos is just patterns we haven't recognized. What we call random is just patterns we cant decipher. What we can't understand we call nonsense. What we can't read we call gibberish.” - Chuck Palahniuk
