@fin: i agree..
@shinggay: question for you, why are you NOT afraid that you might be included in the blacklist? ARE YOU REALLY NOT? is it because quote "i know what im capable of??"
tell you what, it's not a matter of who's capable and who's not.. it's the credibility of the field that's on stake..
.. that's the word COLLATERAL DAMAGE. We still have no clue to how big an impact this is abroad. We know that it gave a bad taste to our nursing institution but to what extent...Originally Posted by doce_pares

@shinggay: yes, you know what you're capable of but does the nurse recruiters and employers know what you're really capable of w/ the rest of your batchi know one of the owner of the biggest agency here and she's doubting and she is a nurse herself and a filipina... she goes back to the philippines every couple of months to recruit nurses and interviews each one of them herself... in fact she was in cebu before the leakage news came out... trust me she said that she's doubting your batch and also probably the other nurse recruiters and employers here... when you take the nclex, you won't know your score coz it will only be pass or fail...and when you put the year you graduated it will be 2006 and it will be something they'll remember coz its all over right now especially to the nurse recruiters... to tell you the truth a lot of filipino nurses are affected and those that are in the highest positions because we are FILIPINOS... its not just your batch gets affected as what others have said in this topic...its EVERYBODY... it may or may not affect you right now but hopefully it won't affect you when you apply for a job outside the country...
^^^^^ well, better listen to the veteran..
agree jed ko nga dili lang ang batch 2006 ang maapektuhan kundili ang FILIPINO in general...and that's sooo sad to think....![]()
I agree, it is not the "only" SOLUTION but it is a very big part of the solution. I'd like to re post an opinion of mine on how this issue should be handled:Originally Posted by shinggay
here's my opinion on what the proper goverment/private agencies should do in light of this controversy:
1) issue a full retake of all exams and shoulder majority of the costs.
2) prosecute the guilty party to the fullest extent of the law ie members of the BON who had a hand in leaking the exams.
3) revamping of the PRC's board of directors/members and its system in choosing those people not only in the nursing department but all medical and all other fields as well.
I hate to see it all come to this but sometimes we need a big slap in the face to let us know that we're not doing a good and honest job. hope we learn from this mistake..
as far as no. 2 and 3 are concerned, the government has already planned on getting to the bottom of it. please click 2 and 3. but as far as no. 1 goes, I don't know if the issuance of a "no retake" is already final.
cheating at the BAR exams and Nursing exams is like comparing apples to oranges as far as repercussions go. first, lawyers won't get hired and practice abroad 'coz of the simple reason that it's Phil law (if I'm not mistaken) that they studied and passed while nurses' primary goal is to land a job abroad. now tell me if majority of nurses' ambition is to work at clinics at far flung areas in the Phil provinces.. it's not, right? please read the comments of nurses like twalalyn who knows firsthand about what recruiters' or hospital management's views are re nurses not only within your batch but the whole country's as well..nka remember mo around 5 yrs ago or sumthng sa BAR exams? did they retake the whole damn test?dba wala?dats exactly what is happening right now.
I hope those people in charge of this situation would try hard to look at the bigger picture, would try to hear the sentiments of most Filipino nurses who are currently employed in all parts of the globe.. a cry for retake..
Shut Up! Let your GAME do the talking!
know what guys, i have to address this not only to the batch of 2006 but to every filipino as well..
we should change this kind of mentality------>"hasul jud kau ang RETAKE noh ... ngano lagi to sila?? ... hala, dko ana kay kapoy na ... next time na lang ... unfair mana oi ... etc.. etc.. etc.. "
don't get me wrong, i understand the sentiments of those who passed but unfortunatey was caught in this kind of situation.. i know i might be talking like an airhead here.. but also realize how the nursing field was greatly affected by all these.. as what @M@rvin said, think of the future, not your current sacrifices..
the Phil government is asking local hospitals who decided "not to hire" passers from batch 2006 to reconsider.. I'm pretty sure that foreign hospitals won't give in to this kind of plea.. what do you think?

Palace asks hospitals to consider ’06 nurses

MALACAÑANG yesterday appealed to hospitals whose officials had decided not to hire those who passed the controversial 2006 nursing board exams to reconsider their decision.
“For we believe that those who passed this board exam fairly should not suffer from the dishonest acts of an erring few,” Press Secretary Ignacio Bunye said in a statement.
Some hospitals like the Philippine General Hospital said they were not entertaining anyone who “passed” the recent nursing board exams because of the legal issues.
The Court of Appeals directed the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) on Aug. 18 to stop the oath-taking of the June passers scheduled for Aug. 22. But hundreds were able to take their oath before the Court of Appeals issued a temporary restraining order.
Some groups now want the court to nullify the oath-taking. Of the 42,006 who took the June exams, 17,821 passed.
Bunye reiterated President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s stand that compelling those who passed to retake the exam was unnecessary and unfair, particularly to those who come from poor families that had worked hard for their children to enter this noble profession.

^ As what I've said above, our recent board exam passers could very well prove that they are competent enough in this field. They can prove that indeed, they have passed the board exams without any leakage whatsoever. They can prove their worth in the medical field. We should not put the blame to our innocent board exam takers.
Indeed, we should take active measures against those who wanted to taint the image of our Filipino nurses. However, we should spare our innocent nurses from any accountability. Otherwise, it would be clearly unfair to them.
^nobody here is putting the blame on the recent nursing board passers per se.. please don't get me wrong. I stated it clearly in my posts that my message goes "to those people who has the power to decide if a retake is needed"; "those people in charge of this situation would try hard to look at the bigger picture". the only thing though is, part of the solution is for a "full retake" to be done to clear the names of those who took and passed the recent exams. no matter how we beautify the description of those nurses: "collateral damage" or whatever.. that's the reality they have to face, they would be greatly affected in some way or the other in the future.
and when you say "They can prove their worth in the medical field", how can they prove their worth if they won't get hired? how can they prove their worth if they get blacklisted not only locally but worldwide? since every recruiting agency, hospital management, health companies are focusing on the said batch; there's just no easy way around this issue but to erase the "doubt" and that is.. thru a "retake". it's a catch 22, right?
