The file size limit for a 32-bit OS like Linux is 4GB. Since there's some overhead involved in making the tar archive, I guess 2GB owuld be the practical limit. I would advise breaking up the archive into multiple files. Try backing up sparate directories as individual tar archives.

    Peace!

Here are instructions for how to run these programs in wine:

    http://mandrivausers.org/index.php?showtopic=23390 - MU
    http://mandrivausers.org/index.php?a...=0#entry195026 - WOW

Use MU without Gameguard (get it at muonline.co.uk) or some other country that have these without gameguard.

Very important when running wine... please install the core fonts! Arial, Times New Roman, Verdana.

This is actually not a physical memory limit but a 'programming' one.

Your version of tar >=1.13.x should be able to handle creating more than 2GB files. But you need to also check if your filesystem and your kernel has LARGE FILE support.

What kernel version on RH Enterprise 3 are you running?

I suggest doing online for some tutorials. A good place to start is The Linux Doc Project at http://tldp.org

A few commands you can use and it's DOS equivalent- ls (dir), cd (cd), cat (type), rm (del), mv (ren &/ move), mkdir (md), rmdir (rd).

You can always do a 'man <command> to look up it's help (just like '<command> /?' in DOS).
