What's wrong with development? If it brings employment to the people and in turn money in thier pockets? More food to eat, better housing to dwell in, extra money for medicine and education? Tell me what's wrong with that?

Cebu is working its way towards that, so what gives? Even you ISTORYADOR, came to Cebu and Manila from your miser hometown looking for better education and employment. So spare us your crap talk about society's sanity bull cr*p.

A sane society is one where people have enough food to eat, you IDIOT!

Separate place? What are you an independent country? Its like in a family. We live in poverty but hey one said, "ah they are not my brothers, I am totally separate and independent."

    This is arrogance.
MISERY loves company. What do you want us to do? do nothing and wallow in the same poverty. Cebu is just doing what everyone should be doing getting on its feet and doing something and not wait for dole outs. This is not individualistic nor is it arrogance for if Cebu improves aren't we contributing something to the Philippines by means of addt'l taxes, wherein your place also gets a slice of. The more each of the provinces improves themselves the better for the rest of the country, isn't it?

Its only a plan but I am worried about the social costs of this program. Will this contribute to a better society? or will this drive people to materialism and consumerism frenzy, and in the end bring more suffering to the people rather than their well being. I am not an expert of development but I am more concern of the human side of it. could you please specify what social costs you're referring to? and give a specific example..

with regards to materialism and consumerism frenzy, I think the Cebuano populace are mature enough to adapt to this type of environment. do you think Cebuanos would just buy anything that they set their eyes on? I don't think so. basic needs would still be on top of their list.

Kaya lang medyo O.T. yung response ng iba. Na kesyo Cebu is better than the others etc. That is not the point but I am obliged to argue with them to let thm see the downside of this project and the prevailing attitude of Cebuanos about development and modernization. We have to bealance everything. Its not about money and tourist and reputation. Its about maintaining the sanity of society amid the frenzy of materialism and consumerism. there is always a downside to everything that's why the pros and cons were weighed before making a decision. I think on this issue, the pros outweigh the cons ten to one.

aren't you proud that there's an island in th Philippine archipelago that could offer tranquility and relaxation together with development and modernization? that IS the balance that you're talking about here. that's how THE CEBU MASTERPLAN is packaging this tiny island south of Manila not only for tourists but to locals as well.

I'm not saying Cebu is better than any other cities in the Philippines, all I'm saying is that: it's DIFFERENT. it offers what other cities can't (a bustling metropolis surrounded by beaches, resorts and nature within an hour drive). and that's the edge investors are banking on.

...and one more thing, could you please expound some more on your comment, "It's about maintaining the sanity of society amid the frenzy of materialism and consumerism"? thanks.
Shut Up! Let your GAME do the talking!

    TO all who are concerned:

I am not anti development. I am not anti Cebu or anti unity or anti everything. Its just that the MASTER PLAN looks good on paper. Infrastructure, and tourist facilities etc. this is really one big plan. The problem is that is there anything mentioned about a MASTER PLAN for employment or a MASTER PLAN for the relocation of people.

I tell you when this infra plan will be implemented without a corresponding plan to improve the income of ordinary Cebuanos it will bring untold hardships for them. Prices of services, not too mention, cost of living will drastically increase because of this rather haf baked, artificial and superficial development. Hinog sa pilit. You cannot call development by the numebr of malls. Dahil marami ang mga pasyalan at tindahan, develop na? Mali yan!
Ang tanong ngayon mga mare at pare, may lugar ba ang karaniwang mamamayan sa isang napaka bonggacious na project tulad ng Cebu Master Plan.

    1. Metro Cebu Corridor
*** Envision to provide a corridor linking the Mandaue Reclation Area and Cebu and Mactan Boardwalk to Kawit Island and Talisay. When completed, this would make full use of the South Reclamation project to provide easy access and linking these areas.

    2. Tourism Corridor Centerpieces
*** Cebu and Mactan Boardwalk (In Mandaue: Ampi-theater, family theme park, Marina Yatch Club, Restaurants, and many others)
*** Cebu Heritage and Cultural Center (Malacanang of the South)
*** Kawit Island Tourism Facilities (Sea-plane landing area, an open-space concert hall, windsurfing facilities)

    3. Relocation of Carbon Public Market
    *** Market SRP properties
*** Complement the Cebu Village Tourism Project
    *** Decongest downtown Cebu City
*** Cater local buyers and tourists

    4. International Port and Cruise Ship Terminal
*** Develop future ecozones and IT parks in Cordova
*** Create a converging point for transportation systems
*** Interlink Cordova with the North to South LRT via underwater tunner

    5. Integrated Transport System
*** LRT connecting to the Mactan Internation Airport. From the airport, it will connect to the Cebu International Port and Cruise Terminal. From the terminal, it will then connect to the Metro Cebu Tourism Corridor. The main terminal will be located beside SM City Cebu, and will connect to the North Coastal Road Project and to the South Reclamation Project

    6. Cable Car System
*** Runs from the foot of Nivel Hills in Lahug going to Tops

    7. TEZ (Tourism Eco Zone)
*** Part of Punta Engano to become the Toursm Eco Zone (variety of hotels, theme parks, public pool, hanging bridge, shopping centers, restaurants, and other tourist attractions)

with regards to the plan of putting up LRTs, metro Cebu corridor etc..you have to discern that more road accessibility and transportation means ease of trading for our people in the said areas, that equates to a good livelihood opportunity.

and also putting up more tourism spots like theme parks, ecozone, tourism corridor and modernazation of market center etc will undoubtedly attracts more foreign and local tourist to visit Cebu. this will boost up the economy which in turn could be beneficial to the people...

you have to think out of the box bai, halimbawa yung MAKATI kung hindi pa na envision yan as business district at ginawa lang yang agricultural area ano kaya ang magiging itsura ng Maynila?..eh saan magra-rally yung mga kapatid mo sa opposisyon, doon sa may tunaan ng kalabaw?...sa maka tuwid taong bayan rin ang makikinabang sa mga planong ganito..especially mga CEBUANO

MABUHAY C ATE GLO AT MGA CEBUANO!
