I'm not easily persuaded with the political ads of these senatoriables. After all, advertisements are there to for the sake of name-recall. It will be more important for me that these political aspirants will work once they get elected.

Internal problems are threatening the campaign of GO, the Genuine Opposition coalition.
GO is hounded by three crucial problems that could stall its election campaign, a party insider said yesterday.
The source said the coalition is suffering from a severe lack of funds, fighting between the Estrada half-brothers, and the individual campaigning of its candidates, including the refusal of re-electionist Sen. Francis Pangilinan, a GO guest candidate, to join their sorties.
The insider, who requested anonymity, said San Juan Mayor JV Ejercito and his half-brother Sen. Jinggoy Estrada are jockeying for the post of GO campaign manager.
Jinggoy, deposed President Joseph Estrada’s son by his wife Sen. Luisa Ejercito, and JV, his son by former actress Guia Gomez, are perceived to have a long-standing sibling rivalry.
But this rivalry was denied by the former president, who lashed out yesterday at what he called "baseless and "unfounded intrigue" involving his two sons.
The most obvious among GO’s logistical problems is the venue of the proclamation. It was first slated in Makati City then subsequently transferred to San Juan, known bailiwicks of the opposition, because Makati City Mayor Jojo Binay and Ejercito, respectively, are opposition stalwarts.
As of yesterday, GO spokesman Adel Tamano announced that their proclamation will be held today at Plaza Miranda in Manila, whose mayor, Lito Atienza, is a known ally of President Arroyo, the chairman of the ruling Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats.
GO candidates Sen. Panfilo Lacson and Reps. Francis Escudero of Sorsogon and Alan Peter Cayetano of Taguig-Pateros have also been campaigning separately and on their own.
"At this early stage, the campaign is breaking up due to financial problems and squabbling among its organizers and factions within its candidates. Some of them refuse to participate in the campaign sorties and some don’t even bother to attend party meetings," he said.
The highly reliable source also revealed that the opposition’s campaign is in disarray largely because it is Estrada – the titular head – who is single-handedly pouring in funds.
"A disappointed Erap has threatened to stop releasing funds unless GO bets are united and mount a solid campaign as a group," he disclosed. "Right now, campaign contributions are in six figures only, not million-peso amounts."
According to the GO insider, Binay is now tasked to get more financial support from Makati businessmen, but he is having difficulty accomplishing this. There have been donations, but these "have yet to hit seven figures."
He also pointed out that while Jinggoy "succeeded" in striking out JV’s name in the 12-man opposition slate, the senator was apparently hurt when the San Juan mayor was named GO campaign manager, who has the final say on the disbursements of Estrada’s funds.
"Jinggoy is jockeying with JV for more control of funds and operations. But Erap is upset because of lack of accountability where funds are deployed, and since GO slate members are refusing to participate in campaign activities," the source stressed.
"The infighting of the two younger Estradas (Jinggoy and JV) is getting personal and unmanageable, which is now aggravating the turmoil-filled opposition party," the GO insider added.
The source said if the opposition wants to win, "we should make a change now before the problem worsens."
But Tamano denied that the opposition campaign is in disarray, saying the party will win in the coming senatorial election. However, he admitted that there are logistical problems and hopes the candidates can solicit more campaign funds on their own.
Tarlac Rep. Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III, a senatorial candidate of GO, explained that the individual campaigning by some opposition bets was part of an earlier commitment.
"The schedule has been set even before the coalition was formed. The people might be turned off if we do not show up. That is natural at the start. We have a budget, but it is limited. We will maximize it to the fullest," he said in a radio interview.

TEAM Unity fails to pay bill at Laguna restaurant

STA. CRUZ, Laguna, http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/breakin...ticle_id=52404 Philippines -- While two of the 12 senatorial candidates of the TEAM Unity ticket are among the top three biggest spenders in the early part of the campaign period, the administration coalition failed to settle its account at a local restaurant here where its bets held a press conference to kick off their “Pulong Sulong” or town hall meetings in the different towns of Laguna on Thursday.
As of press time, representatives of the TEAM Unity had yet to fully settle its bill with the owner of the Tres Palmas Restaurant in the village of Pagsawitan where four of the party’s senatorial bets -- Surigao Representative Prospero Pichay, Bukidnon Representative Miguel Zubiri, Sulu Sultan Jamalul Kiram III and actor Cesar Montano -- met members of the media in a midmorning news briefing.
According to restaurant owner Yolanda Hernandez, the half-day event amounted to only P31,000.
The bill included the use of the venue and the food -- pancit Malabon, fried chicken and sandwich -- which they served to more than 70 persons who attended the affair.
The administration’s senatorial ticket, however, was able to pay only P13,000 when they left the area at around noon.
“They still have to pay the balance of P18, 000. But I’m not worrying. I know they will settle the amount the soonest possible time. I trust them. Anyway, it’s just a small amount,” Hernandez told the Inquirer in Filipino.
She said a representative of the political party left his mobile phone number where she can contact him.
She said she was also told that part of the bill would be paid by the provincial government.
But Cris Sanji, the provincial information officer, vehemently denied that they would foot the bill for TEAM Unity.
Sanji, who was the moderator of the news conference, said it was clear from the start that the coalition, not the provincial government, would pay for the event.
“There might be just some miscommunication. But there was no agreement that we would help in paying the bills,” he said.
Meanwhile, a staff member at the restaurant told the Inquirer that a coordinator for the Team Unity asked for their bank account and informed them that they would just deposit their balance on Friday.
