Still a skeptic...

There's nothing groundbreaking that has been unveiled yet. Even if its 3D, I don't really care at all. Stereoscopic 3D can be easily achieved with simple hacks and homebrews.

For it to be ground breaking for me, there must be a card in the 6000 series that must be using the 32/28nm fabrication. From what I see, the 6870 is just a cheap way to grab money.

Its not a rebrand unlike the Nvidia G92 its a whole new architecture or chip.

I'd dispose this if ever AMD reduces the wattage of 5850 into 50 Watts

HD5870 already has 1600 streaming processor cores in a single die. That's way beyond dual core.
This chips will also clock down in 2D mode and boost clock speed in 3D.
And 1600 cores under 180W, that's very impressive.

With the unveiling of AMD's Radeon HD 6000-series GPUs now just around the corner, web-based leaks are coming thick and fast.

The latest, published by Chinese website xfastest.com, could be the most significant to date as it includes benchmarks for two upcoming products; the Radeon HD 6870 and HD 6850.

Both GPUs have been caught on camera in recent weeks, but whilst card specifications are merely conjecture at this point, the early benchmarks suggest that the new Radeon HD 6800-series won't be a direct successor to current 5800-series parts.

According to the supposed pre-release 3DMark Vantage and 3DMark06 numbers, the new products are outperformed by previous-generation equivalents.

Still not convincing.

5770-6870
5850-6950
5870-6970
5970-6970x2

That's why the leaked benchmark of 6870 is slower than 5870
Coz its not meant to replace it but the 5770.

Dropping the stronger ATI brand plus this....nice moved AMD.

Interestingly there are rumors that AMD will rebrand both the HD5750 and HD5770 to HD6750 and HD6770.
